The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the Búdy cellar row with 140 wine cellars, and military history collections give Vlkoš several distinct highlights. When planning your trip, you can explore church architecture, cellar architecture and military history separately.

Church architecture and sacred sites

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built between 1771 and 1780 on the site of an earlier Gothic church. Its history therefore spans two distinct periods: the Gothic predecessor and the later church building. The furnishings are predominantly Baroque and include woodcarvings by Ondřej Schweigl. Services are held in the church.

Other sacred sites have their own character: the Chapel of St Florian is in Vlkoš. The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk stands opposite the former manor house. The U tří svatých devotional site is on the road out of Vlkoš towards Kelčany. Their different locations set these sites apart from one another and distinguish them from the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

Wine cellars and routes

The Búdy area is a cellar row with 140 wine cellars. It includes examples of traditional folk cellar architecture. Two distinct features stand out: the size of the cellar row and its distinctive architectural style. For travellers interested in culture, Búdy offers a unique way to explore local architectural history.

The routes also differ in how they relate to Vlkoš. The Moravská vinná stezka passes the town’s wine cellars and connects the Uherské Hradiště area with Znojmo. The Kyjovská vinařská stezka, by contrast, starts at the former mill site in Vlkoš, near a Baroque chapel dating from the second half of the 18th century. The Achtele cellar colony lies on the Moravská vinná stezka, about 2 kilometres from the town centre. It can be reached by the route from the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary or along the local cemetery.

Cultural and social wine events organised by Přátelé Achtele include Zarážání hory, held in August. If the festival is important for your travel dates, check the current event date in advance.

Military history and planning your visit

The Military muzeum generála Sergěje Jana Ingra features extensive collections from the Second World War, representing all armies, as well as contemporary military exhibitions. Opening hours vary from week to week; check them before your visit. School classes and other larger groups should arrange their visit individually by calling 608 025 233.

Vlkošské dny vojenských tradic is a two-day event with an attractive Saturday programme and commemorative ceremonies on Sunday. It has been held for more than ten years. The Saturday and Sunday schedule is important to consider if you want to include the programme in your trip; check the current event dates in advance.

Bus connections

Three bus routes from Kyjov run through Vlkoš: route 664 goes to Hodonín, route 665 to Bzenec and route 666 to Osvětimany. The different destinations help you choose the right connection. Check the timetables before your trip.
