At Želetice, medieval local history, wine-growing traditions and a distinctive landscape come together. The kostel sv. Jakuba church dates back to the mid-13th century; the Muzeum obce Želetice explores the everyday lives of earlier generations. Na Adamcích and the Kyjovská vinařská stezka add nature and cycling to these cultural themes.

Natural Area and Cycling Route

The Na Adamcích National Natural Monument lies within the cadastral area of Želetice, between Želetice and Nenkovice, on the slope of Homole Hill. The hill is 273 metres above sea level, giving the protected area a clear topographical setting.

The Kyjovská vinařská stezka leads from Ždánice along the Ždánka cycle path to Želetice, where it branches towards Nenkovice and Násedlovice. It is marked in green. Along the route, the paths pass through forests, orchards, vineyards, fields and meadows. For navigation, the route combines specific place names with trail markers; at the same time, the landscape extends beyond vineyards. Na Adamcích and the trail represent different points of interest: a natural monument with a precise location, and a marked cycling route with two branches from Želetice.

Church and Local History

The kostel sv. Jakuba church was founded in the mid-13th century. The Gothic presbytery and Gothic triumphal arch are the oldest surviving parts of the original church. The presbytery is the choir area; the triumphal arch marks the transition to the nave. These details offer two distinct insights into the church’s history: the founding date establishes its origins in time, while the architectural features show which parts of the original building have survived. For those interested in medieval sacred architecture, the particular appeal lies in this combination of the church’s founding period and its Gothic elements.

Museum and the Everyday Lives of Earlier Generations

The Muzeum obce Želetice is housed in a former school building dating from 1897. It displays objects and exhibits donated by residents, relating to household life, agriculture and the everyday lives of earlier generations. In this way, the museum complements the history of the church and local architecture with a focus on daily life: domestic and working life sit alongside the religious and architectural history of the village. Visits are possible during festive occasions or by prior arrangement with the municipal office. If you want to make a visit to the museum a fixed part of your itinerary, arrange it in advance with the municipal office.

Wine-Growing Traditions and Festival Dates

Wine growing was a predominant local tradition in Želetice for a long time. The Svatojakubské krojované hody take place every July and are a recurring date in the local festival calendar. The Želetické krojované hody, held from 23 to 27 July 2026, included a hodová wine tasting on 24 July and a costumed procession through the village. If you are planning a trip in July, check the specific festival dates for that year.
