Syrovín combines sacred architectural history and winegrowing with a marked route and two annual events. Local details span different time horizons: the church and chapels have specific dates, the festivals follow an annual cycle, and grape varieties and cultivated area may change.
Church and Chapels
The Church of the Conversion of St. Paul (Obrácení sv. Pavla) was built between 1713 and 1716 at the expense of the priest of Syrovín, Pavel Jaroš. It is an architecturally significant Baroque building in a prominent location. Its construction dates, style and funding by a local priest offer different perspectives on the same building: they place it in the Baroque period and link its creation to a named individual.
At the southern edge of Syrovín stands the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows (Panny Marie Sedmibolestné), dating from 1888 and listed as a cultural monument. The Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes (Panny Marie Lurdské) dates from 1940 and is located on the road to Újezdec. Compared with the early 18th-century church, both chapels belong to later building periods; 52 years separate their construction dates. If you are interested in sacred architecture, the dates provide a time frame for placing the different periods in context.
Winegrowing and Route
Winegrowing in Syrovín had already attracted residents' attention from the beginning of the 17th century. Today, mainly Pinot Gris (Burgundské šedé), white grape varieties or Riesling are grown in the village across an area of 32 hectares. Grape varieties and cultivated area may change. Here, a historical reference meets specific information about present-day cultivation.
The marked Bzenecká wine route runs through Újezdec, Syrovín and Těmice. This route description covers several villages, while the 32 hectares refer specifically to winegrowing in Syrovín. For travel planning, these are different scales: local cultivation and the route through several villages each offer a distinct focus.
Annual Festivals
Císařské hody takes place every year on the third Saturday and Sunday in October. The exact calendar dates may vary from year to year; the Sunday programme includes a festive Mass at the local church. Programme details may also change. If you are planning your trip around the festival, check the date and programme for your chosen year.
The Závod Velkou Moravou race takes place every year in September. It passes through the countryside of the Slovácko – Buchlovské hory (Chřiby) region, including fields, meadows and vineyards. Dates and arrangements may change. Together, the two events offer two distinct travel-planning windows: September for the race and the third weekend in October for Císařské hody.
Another Local Historical Landmark
A restored fire engine from 1899 is displayed in a glass case opposite the municipal office. As a historical object, it adds another local point of interest alongside the sacred buildings and winegrowing. Its precisely specified location differs from the construction dates and style used to place the church and chapels in context.
