St. Joseph’s Church and Culture
St. Joseph’s Church in Dubňany combines the surviving remains of a late Baroque chapel with a Neo-Romanesque nave. The building is 31 metres long, and the nave is 11 metres wide. It also has a 37-metre-high tower topped with a 2.6-metre cross. Inside hangs a chandelier donated to the new church by a glassworks in Dubňany in 1885. Different architectural styles thus stand alongside a specific, dated detail of local glassmaking.
The Dubňany Cultural and Information Centre offers guided tours of its exhibitions on mining and glassmaking, as well as the Slovácká jizba. This adds cultural topics beyond church architecture. The experiences differ: at the church, the defining details are its architectural features, dimensions and donated chandelier; at the centre, visitors can join tours of several exhibitions. This gives you the choice between a specific architectural connection and a broader guided cultural offering.
Water in the Destination
Koupaliště Dubňany has a small pool and a paddling pool for children and their parents. It also has a toboggan and a large waterslide. Its facilities therefore include both pools and two ways to slide. If you take water activities into account when choosing a destination, you’ll find a different focus here than at sites for church architecture and cultural tours.
Cycling the Mutěnka
The Mutěnka cycling route is 14.5 kilometres long, easy and mostly flat, and runs from Kyjov to Mutěnice. It was created along the former Mutěnice–Kyjov railway line. Its former use and its current function as a cycling route are two distinct aspects of the route. Its length, endpoints and terrain provide specific details for planning your trip; you should also check the current surface conditions before setting out. The Mutěnka thus combines a clearly defined cycling option with an understandable history of how it came about.
Jarohněvický Pond and Birdwatching
Jarohněvický Pond lies beyond Dubňany and covers just under 100 hectares. It is one of the largest bodies of water in the Hodonín District. Various bird species can be observed at the pond. The area gives an idea of its size within the district, while birdwatching offers a specific connection to nature. Those interested in waterscapes will find both a sense of scale and a link to birdlife.
Another natural attraction is Kosteliska Bird Park: it is intended to remain accessible to the public, while additional visitor facilities are a future goal. Continued public access and additional facilities therefore have different timelines.
A Focus for Finding Accommodation
If you’re looking for a hotel in Dubňany, it’s worth first deciding what you want to focus on during your stay: are you most interested in church architecture and guided cultural experiences, Koupaliště, cycling or nature watching?
