Vacenovice combines Habaner history with a landscape of wind-blown sands and predominantly pine forests. For planning your trip, there are cultural attractions and nature to explore; a visit to Habánský sklep requires an appointment in advance.
Habaner History in the Town Centre
In the centre of Vacenovice stands the old Habánský sklep, which probably dates back to the 16th century. Visits are possible during the office hours of the Vacenovice municipal office, by prior arrangement in person or by telephone. Confirm the arrangements in advance, as details may change.
The exhibition covers Habaner ceramics and displays originals and replicas, a model of a Habaner house, and discovered Habaner kilns. As the exhibits may change, it is worth checking with the venue before your visit.
Museum and Local Customs
Muzeum Vacenovice offers a different cultural focus. The front living area of a building dating from 1904 serves as a museum and farmhouse room. The former stables, added in 1946, have been converted into a small hall for exhibitions and talks. The living quarters and later outbuildings thus represent different aspects of local heritage.
Since 2008, the museum has collected, processed and presented historical and ethnographic information and artefacts, which it also salvages and restores. Omladina adds a local customs perspective: this association of young people meets regularly to practise dances and customs. Its members wear traditional costumes at various celebrations. Those interested in cultural practices rather than exhibits will find another way to connect with local life here.
Wine Cellars and Seasonal Refreshments
The Žlébky wine cellars comprise more than 20 cellars. Local winemakers use them to process grapes and store wine. In front of the cellars is a well-kept lawn where cultural and social events are held in cooperation with the municipal administration and local winemakers. Check the dates in advance if you would like to include an event in your trip.
At Rúdník, Habánský dvůr has created a natural area with a barn, a stage and a refreshment kiosk. The kiosk serves refreshments during the warmer months. If you plan to visit for this seasonal offering, check availability in advance.
Landscape, Walks and Views
Vacenovice lies in a flat to gently rolling landscape on wind-blown sands; the surrounding area is predominantly covered by pine forests. The Jezero natural monument in the cadastral area of Vacenovice u Kyjova protects wet to marshy meadows, a shallow pool and a willow-poplar grove. Wet meadows and trees are the focus here, while pine forests define the wider landscape.
From Vacenovice, Salaš Rúdník can be reached via a paved forest road. The route is suitable for a walk or a cycling stop. Its surface conditions may change; take this into account if they are important for your plans.
The wider visitor area also includes Náklo Hill, on the boundary between the municipalities of Vacenovice, Ratíškovice, Milotice and Dubňany. It features a lily cross and seated statues of the merchant Sámo, Saints Cyril and Methodius, and Prince Rastislav. The hill offers views in every direction. The local attractions therefore have distinctly different focuses: Habaner history and local culture on the one hand, and landscape features and views on the other.
