The neo-Gothic Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the stone cross on its south wall give Zbraslavec a clearly defined cultural and historical theme. There are also routes with different points of interest: cycle route 5141 passes through the village and connects several named places; a green hiking trail runs through the Úmoří valley towards Hluboké u Kunštátu. The history of the buildings, the craft tradition and the routes offer different points of reference as you consider Zbraslavec as a destination for a stay.

Chapel and Stone Cross

The chapel dates from 1901 and is neo-Gothic. Its older western section consists of an original prism-shaped chapel with a square floor plan. A newer, slightly wider rectangular nave is attached to it. The change in floor plans offers a concrete way to understand the building’s layout: the square body of the chapel is followed by the rectangular nave. The two sections remain recognisable as distinct elements of the same building.

A stone cross with an image of Christ painted on sheet metal stands in front of the south wall. The year 1857 is carved into the cross. The dates are therefore clearly distinguished: 1857 refers to the cross, while 1901 refers to the chapel. The cross is thus dated earlier than the neo-Gothic building. Together, the cross and chapel represent two distinct cultural and historical details that should not be collapsed into a single building phase.

Pottery Tradition and Local History

The local pottery tradition also has a specific connection to the surrounding area: kaolin deposits on Mount HĹŻra, within the territory of Zbraslavec, contributed to the development of local pottery. This adds a different perspective on local history to the story of the architecture. While the chapel and cross can be understood through their architectural forms and dates, the pottery tradition links a named place with the historical development of a craft.

Cycling and Hiking Routes

Cycle route 5141 passes through Zbraslavec and connects Kunštát, Drnovice, Lysice, Žerůtky, Býkovice and Černá Hora. The named places make the regional course of the cycle route easier to picture. This information is particularly useful for planning if you would like to follow a route that includes several places.

A green hiking trail runs through the Úmoří valley towards Hluboké u Kunštátu. The two route descriptions offer different points of reference: the cycle route connects several places, while the hiking trail is described in terms of the valley and the indicated direction. This lets you first decide whether you are interested in a cycling connection or a route through the valley.

Trail markings and local conditions may change. Check the route and signage before setting out.

Other Local Points of Interest

The “Pod kaštany” sports complex is also located in Zbraslavec. If you are considering it as a specific activity, check access in advance. This keeps the complex on your itinerary as a local point of interest without assuming that it is available for a particular use.

The sawmill and the former Křepelův mlýn mill are located on the left bank of the Úmoří in the southern part of Zbraslavec. The grounds are not accessible. The site is therefore a historical point of interest, but not a public visitor attraction. Its precise location by the river in the southern part of the village distinguishes it from the route descriptions and the cultural and historical details at the chapel.
