Vilice combines a varied landscape with archaeological and cultural-historical traces. For your stay, you can first decide whether to focus on ponds and terrain or on former fortifications, Jewish cemeteries and local crafts. These themes offer different perspectives: the natural environment brings together bodies of water and a plant habitat, while the historical connections range from fortification building to pottery.

Ponds and Natural Environment

Between Husí hora and Vilice lies a system of three ponds: Velký Vilický rybník, Vilecký rybník and rybník Biřička. The ponds are also called Prvák, Druhák and Třeťák. The Vilický potok flows from this system and then joins the Blanice. The watercourse connects the ponds with the Blanice and gives the landscape theme a clear hydrological thread.

The cadastral area of Vilice has a highly valuable landscape character and varied terrain. A botanical feature lies near Hrnčíře: in the vicinity of Vilice is Hadce u Hrnčíř, one of three sites in the Czech Republic where the species kuřička hadcová (Minuartia smejkalii) is found. This brings not only the landscape in general into focus, but also a specific plant species and its distinctive location. The botanical site represents a focused connection with nature, while the pond system and terrain describe the landscape in a broader sense.

Fortifications and Crafts

The Kříženec fortification site is an archaeological site with a particularly high density of finds. Kříženec was a water fortress with an irregular octagonal ground plan. Remains of the ponds, wetlands and embankments that protected access to the fortress are still visible in the surrounding area. Here, the structure and the terrain go together: the octagonal ground plan describes the fortress, while the visible remains show the role of the surrounding waters and wetlands in protecting access.

The site of a former fortress on the Salt Route is among Vilice’s most important landscape and architectural assets. Historically, potters in Hrnčíře made stoneware pots. These themes offer different historical perspectives: the fortification connections foreground architecture and landscape, while the pottery focuses on the production of stoneware.

Cemeteries and Practical Information

A Jewish cemetery lies in the vicinity of Vilice, east of the road from Elbančice to Vilice. Another Jewish cemetery is also nearby, at Běleč; it was established before 1723 and preserves around 180 gravestones, including Baroque and Neoclassical examples. This cemetery is freely accessible; check local access conditions before your arrival. The approximate number of gravestones and the styles mentioned give the cemetery at Běleč a specific historical focus.

Local tourist routes pass through Vilice. If you are planning a route-based trip, check its current course and condition locally in advance. This will help you plan your day around the route in question.
