Several specific themes come together for a stay in Dobřejice: the river and woodland landscape of the Kukle Nature Park, a yellow-marked hiking trail, cycle route No. 31 and archaeological sites. This lets you plan your trip around your own interests – perhaps getting active along a route or taking time to enjoy the landscape and history. Stádlecký Bridge adds a significant technical monument to the mix.

Landscape of the Kukle Nature Park

The Kukle Nature Park stretches along the left bank of the Lužnice in the area bounded by Dobřejice, Třebelice and Dobronice u Bechyně. It includes the extensive Kukle and Potálov woodland complexes. These are connected to the course of the Lužnice and its left-bank tributaries, the Dobřejický, Od Kukle and Třebelický streams. The river, its tributaries and the woodlands give the nature park several connected landscape features to bear in mind when planning an outing in nature.

The slopes of the river and stream valleys are also characteristic: in the nature park, they are regarded as geomorphologically and floristically significant natural features. This means that both the landforms and the plant life are part of the landscape. If you want to explore more than just a route during your stay and take in the natural surroundings as well, this is a good place to start.

Distinguishing between hiking and cycling

The yellow-marked hiking trail leads west from Malšice via Dobřejice to Stádlecký Bridge and continues through Stádlec. This route covers both the westbound section and the places that follow. If you plan to travel in this direction, check the current waymarking before setting out: the route may change following trail maintenance.

For cycling, cycle route No. 31 is the specific route to consider. It passes through Dobřejice, by Stádlecký Bridge and through Stádlec, continuing towards Bernartice. Here too, the route may change when the cycle route is updated, so it is advisable to check before setting off. The route descriptions have different focuses: the hiking trail leads from Malšice via Dobřejice to Stádlec, while cycle route No. 31 continues from there towards Bernartice.

Stádlecký Bridge and archaeological traces

Stádlecký Bridge is a unique technical monument and the last surviving Empire-style bridge in Czechia. It was relocated from the Vltava to the Lužnice. The bridge is on the road between Dobřejice and Stádlec and is also accessible to cyclists. As access conditions may change temporarily, check them before a cycling trip.

The archaeological sites represent two distinct periods. The Dobřejice–V Kukle site includes burial mounds from the Bronze Age and Hallstatt period. Dobronice III, IV is an early medieval burial ground with mounds. Visible ditches are present around most of the burial mounds, which are arranged in three rows from west to east. The two sites therefore differ both in their dating and in the specific features described: Dobronice III, IV is noted for its ditches and arrangement in rows, while Dobřejice–V Kukle is associated with the two periods.

Find a holiday apartment to suit your stay

When looking for a holiday apartment in Dobřejice, it helps to first decide what you would like to focus on during your stay. If you want to hike, the yellow-marked route leads via Dobřejice to Stádlecký Bridge and on to Stádlec. For cyclists, cycle route No. 31 offers a different direction, continuing towards Bernartice. Nature enthusiasts can explore the nature park through the Lužnice, its woodlands and tributaries; those interested in cultural history can find points of interest at the archaeological sites and the bridge.
