Zvěrotice offers several clearly distinct points of interest for planning a trip: a historically shaped settlement layout, two chapels with different connections to the village, and Cycle Route 1180, which runs through the village. The village center and square help you understand the village’s built form. The cycle route adds a specific point of interest for cyclists to the village’s history. There is also a public sports area and historic connections to mills. When planning, you can therefore decide whether to focus on local history, cycling or a particular sporting activity.
Village Square and Historic Village Center
The historic village center is designated as an urban area of value. It includes original farming homesteads, their outbuildings at the rear, and adjacent gardens and orchards. The central village square is circular in shape and laid out as a broad public space. Original farming homesteads surround it, and an extensive network of paths provides access to the square. Together, these features show different scales of the settlement pattern: the homesteads with their outbuildings and open spaces, as well as the spacious village square, accessible by paths.
Chapels and Local History
A chapel dedicated to St. John of Nepomuk stands in the village square. Another chapel, a Neoclassical niche chapel, lies southwest of Zvěrotice on the embankment of Road II/135. It is a prominent landmark in the landscape. The two chapels have different spatial connections: one is associated with the village square, the other with the road and the area southwest of the village.
Zárubův Mlýn stands west of Zvěrotice on the Černovický potok. A historical record from 1460 mentions Zvěrotice together with two mills and the forests known as “Na Libuši.” The first documented mention of Zárubův Mlýn dates from 1648; the Záruba family milled grain there for almost 200 years. Local history gives the personal name Zvěrota, believed to be the name of the settlement’s founder, as the explanation for the name Zvěrotice.
Cycle Route, Hiking Trail and Sports
Cycle Route 1180 runs from Soběslav through Zvěrotice to Sedlečko u Soběslavě. Within the administrative area of Zvěrotice, it follows a local road between existing buildings in the direction of Sedlečko u Soběslavě. This describes both the connection between the named places and the route’s local alignment. A blue-marked hiking trail also runs northeast of Zvěrotice. If you plan to use it, check the markings on site.
The public multi-purpose sports court has an artificial grass surface and is designed for small-sided football, handball, foot tennis, volleyball, floorball, basketball and tennis. The sports court and its associated service building are open to the public; by arrangement, they can be made available at certain times for sporting and social events. A free public toilet is available in the service building for visitors to the sports area.
Landscape Around Zvěrotice
The area around Zvěrotice is a picturesque South Bohemian landscape of fields, pastures, ponds and wooded field margins. Alongside the settlement pattern, historic points of interest and local activities, these landscape features are also part of the destination’s character.
