The Lužnice River and its valley form roughly the western-to-northern boundary of Bečice. This gives the choice of location a clear connection to the landscape; there is also a protected natural area, a riverside hiking trail, water sports and historic sites.

The Lužnice and Protected Habitats

The Lužnice Natural Monument also extends into the cadastral district of Bečice nad Lužnicí. It protects habitats of rare and endangered plant and animal species, including Unio crassus, Misgurnus fossilis and the Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra). The approximate village boundary and the natural monument offer different points of emphasis: the river traces the landscape, while the protected area draws attention to its habitats. Nature and conservation are therefore both part of getting your bearings in Bečice.

Walking Along the River and Visiting the Waterfall

A red-marked hiking trail runs along the right bank of the Lužnice near Bečice. Check the markings on site before planning your walk around them. This provides a specific hiking option by the river, while Bečický vodopád makes for a separate detour.

The waterfall is more than two metres high, but carries little water. Access is also relatively challenging. Bear both points in mind when deciding whether to include the waterfall in your plans: its height, the small volume of water and the route there combine to offer a different nature experience from a walk along the riverbank.

Water Sports on the Lužnice

The whitewater section of the lower Lužnice runs from Tábor via Lužničanka near Bečice and Dobronice to Bechyně. Check the water conditions before setting off. The route covers a longer stretch of river than the individual launch point at Bečice; both details help you plan around either a route or a launch point.

There is a launch point for the Dušan Jakubec boat rental service in Bečice. A 2022 municipal plan mentions this launch point; check whether the service is currently operating before making plans. The same 2022 municipal plan also describes the weir pool at Bejšovcův mlýn on the Lužnice as an attraction for water-sports enthusiasts. The route, launch point and weir pool are distinct points of reference for water sports on the Lužnice.

Cultural Monuments and History

A boundary wall stands in front of house No. 11 in Bečice and is protected as a cultural monument. Its protection was confirmed by a decision of the Ministry of Culture in 2024. The wall was probably built at the end of the 19th century and is a historical reminder of the products of the then well-known brickworks owned by Prince Paar in Zářečí near Bechyně.

The nearby ruins of Příběnice Castle offer a glimpse into a different period. The castle was built in the 13th century in the Lužnice valley and captured by the Hussites in 1420. The probably more recent boundary wall and the medieval castle ruins therefore stand as two structures from different periods: the protected monument in the village and the nearby castle site.
