The Sedláček Trail gives Štědronín-Plazy a direct connection to the river landscape: it runs along the Otava from Písek to Zvíkov. Two route distances need to be distinguished when planning a trip, as do walking time and the revised cycle route. The area also offers landscapes within the protected zone of Zvíkov Castle, an annual fishing camp and a monument with a precisely dated unveiling. This makes it possible to identify different focuses for a stay: the route, the river and castle landscape, or an event date.

Sedláček Trail: route distances and walking time

The Sedláček Trail runs 25 kilometres along the Otava from Písek to Zvíkov. Since 2006, it has been renewed as cycle route No. 1225 on a revised, 35-kilometre route. This route is intended for shared use by pedestrians and cyclists and passes through Štědronín. The two kilometre figures refer to different routes: 25 kilometres describes the course along the Otava from Písek to Zvíkov, while 35 kilometres refers to the revised route as cycle route No. 1225. This distinction is useful when comparing hiking and cycling route information while planning; simply mentioning the trail does not make clear which of the two distances is meant.

The trail passes through Štědronín on its way to the road bridge over the Otava. The bridge provides a clear landmark along the route. The one-way walking time for the Sedláček Trail is given as 4 hours and 30 minutes. This puts distance, route and time side by side as separate planning considerations. If you are planning the trip on foot, the time estimate is the relevant reference; for the revised, shared-use route, the stated distance of 35 kilometres is the relevant figure.

Zvíkov Castle and the river landscape

Within the protected zone of the state-owned Zvíkov Castle, wooded valleys and the water where the Vltava and Otava meet afford distant views of the castle. Štědronín-Plazy is also part of this protected zone. This gives the place a landscape landmark in addition to its route: the combination of wooded valleys, the confluence and views of Zvíkov creates a distinct focus for travellers interested in landscape and culture. This differs from questions of distance or walking time, as the emphasis here is on the named landscape features and distant views.

Fishing camp at the Orlík Reservoir

The annual fishing camp “Tábor s vodníkem” is held at the Počta – Štědronín recreation centre on the shore of the Orlík Reservoir. The 2025 edition’s weekly programme included team competitions to identify fish and test angling skills. According to the weekly schedule, night fishing took place every other day. The activities show different aspects of the camp: in this edition, the programme included team competitions as well as fishing. The recurring event adds a different rhythm to travel planning than the trail, which is described as a permanent feature. If you would like to plan your stay around the camp, check the dates for the relevant edition.

A historical landmark in the village

The Štědronín-Plazy monument was ceremonially unveiled on 25 May 1947. This exact date gives the place a clear historical point of reference alongside its trails, landscape and event. This way, practical activities and different cultural points of interest can complement each other in your travel plans without being combined into a single excursion programme.
