Vrcovice brings together archaeological heritage, historic buildings and hiking routes. Vrcovické Hradiště dates back to the Early Bronze Age and is also a named waypoint on the Písek Ridgeway; on the Otava, the E10 Sedláček Trail crosses the river at a designated tourist crossing.

Bronze Age, Baroque and a former spa tradition

Vrcovické Hradiště is an archaeological landmark of the village. It is also named as a waypoint on the Písek Ridgeway (Písecká hřebenovka). The hike is 74 kilometres long overall and is classified as easy to moderate. Two perspectives meet here: the Bronze Age heritage of the Hradiště and a longer hiking route that includes this place in its sequence of waypoints. The total length describes the scale of the hike, while the easy-to-moderate classification indicates its level of difficulty.

Other historic features offer a different perspective. The village chapel in Vrcovice is dedicated to Saint Wenceslas. House No. 11 is one of the buildings in Vrcovice that exemplifies rural Baroque style. Staré Lázně was once a popular spa destination. Together, these references show different aspects of the village’s history: its archaeological past, a religious dedication, rural architecture and a former spa tradition.

Hiking and the Otava crossing

A footbridge connects the settlement near Vrcovice with the opposite bank of the Otava. Near Borečnice, the footbridge over the river lies partly within the cadastral area of Vrcovice. It is maintained as a tourist crossing for public access; the E10 Sedláček Trail also crosses this bridge. The Otava connection is therefore a specific hiking feature, while Vrcovické Hradiště is a waypoint on the Písek Ridgeway.

The two route connections also differ in scale: the Ridgeway is a 74-kilometre hike, while the bridge near Borečnice is a named crossing on the E10. This lets you decide whether to plan around the longer hiking route or this river crossing. Temporary access conditions may change, so check local trail conditions before your hike.

Connections and choosing accommodation

A bus service connects Vrcovice with Písek. Rail connections run from Vrcovice to Písek and Tábor. Písek is therefore accessible by both bus and train, while a rail connection is listed for Tábor. Check the timetables for your travel date, as journey times and connections may change.

When looking for accommodation, you can start by identifying your main travel focus: the historic features, the Písek Ridgeway or the E10 crossing of the Otava. If connections to Písek or Tábor matter to your plans, check the bus and train timetables separately.
