Světce can be explored through two specific themes: its local mill history and the cycling routes that pass through the village. The history of the chapel and the origin of the village name are also part of the picture. Before looking for a place to stay, you can consider whether you would rather focus your visit on a planned trip to the mill or a cycling route.

Water Mill and Chapel History

Zdechův mlýn, also known as Půlpytlův, is a water mill in Světce and was first mentioned in writing in 1255. The mill is open as a museum of machinery and milling, usually by arrangement with the owner. So arrange your visit with them in advance. That way, you can factor the museum visit into your plans rather than assume you can enter without notice.

The mill race is part of the mill’s technical history: water was brought from Deštenský potok to the mill along a channel about 1.2 kilometres long. This brings the water supply into focus alongside the building itself as part of the milling process. The channel connects the named stream with the mill site, adding a specific technical dimension to the mill’s history.

The chapel also adds a distinct historical layer to the village. The present-day chapel was built in the 19th century and continues an older local tradition. The name Světce evolved from the names “U svatého” and “U světce,” associated with the image of a saint in a chapel. The place name and the building’s history complement one another: the name’s development points to an older iconographic tradition, while the present-day chapel dates from the 19th century.

Cycling Routes Through Světce

Cycle Route 1182 leads from Deštná to Světce. There, cyclists can turn onto Cycle Route 1239 towards Horní Radouň. This provides a specific sequence for planning a ride: Deštná, Světce as the turnoff, and then the direction of Horní Radouň. Check the signage and route conditions before setting out.

The routes “Přes památky do pohádky na Jindřichohradecku” and “Z Deštné do Nové Včelnice” also pass through Světce. Their names point to different destinations: the first names the Jindřichohradecko region and connects the route with a cultural and historical theme; the second leads from Deštná to Nová Včelnice. Both include Světce along their way. Together with the connection via Cycle Routes 1182 and 1239, they offer different ways to include the village in a cycling tour.

This lets you pair your accommodation search with a specific visit or tour focus.
