Kamenný Malíkov is visited for the Malíkovské skály valley. The Žirovnice flows through the valley; the village’s history also includes a natural geological outcrop, the Chapel of St. Anne, a stone road bridge, and theatrical and craft traditions. The landscape, architectural history and cultural past therefore offer different starting points for planning your trip.

The Malíkovské skály valley and the geological outcrop

The Čertova skluzavka is also part of the Malíkovské skály valley. The river and this named place are specific landmarks within the same landscape theme. If you are choosing a destination based on its natural setting, the valley is the central landscape feature of Kamenný Malíkov.

Another geological feature is the site “Výchozy na jižním okraji obce Kamenný Malíkov.” It is a natural outcrop on the left bank of the Žirovnice. It can be reached from a road at the southern edge of the village by a walkable trail. The distance from the road to the outcrop is more than 250 metres. Include this stretch in your visit plans.

Local history and amateur theatre

The founding of Kamenný Malíkov is dated to the 14th century. The earliest written records date from 1512; at that time, the settlement was called Český Malíkov. The two dates shed light on different aspects: the date of the founding and an early written form of the name.

Crafts and amateur theatre are also part of the village’s history. From the mid-19th century, Kamenný Malíkov was home to mother-of-pearl workers known as čamrdáři. An amateur theatre group was already active in 1924; in 1932 it had 25 members. In winter, the group performed up to four plays. After 1990, Kamenný Malíkov revived its amateur theatre tradition. These milestones span local craftsmanship and different periods in the history of theatre.

The Chapel of St. Anne and the stone bridge

The small Chapel of St. Anne is built of masonry and plastered, with a square floor plan. Its tented roof supports a polygonal roof turret. The chapel dates from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Its floor plan, roof shape and roof turret provide specific details that help describe the architecture of this small religious building.

The stone road bridge in Kamenný Malíkov spans the Počátecký potok and dates from the second half of the 19th century. It is a solid single-arch bridge set at right angles to the watercourse. The roadway is on top; the walls and wing walls are part of the structure. On the east side, an iron statue of St. John of Nepomuk stands on a pedestal. In terms of architectural forms, the chapel, with its square floor plan and roof turret, offers a different point of reference from the bridge with its arch over the water.

A route through Kamenný Malíkov

The “Do rodiště Tomáše Štítného” route passes through Česká Olešná, Kamenný Malíkov and Zdešov. If you plan to cycle it, check the local cycle-route signs before setting off. This lets you include the route in your plans while also taking current signage into account.
