At Hejtman Pond in Chlum U Třeboně, waterside leisure facilities meet a clear starting point for a walk: the Naučná stezka Mikuláše Rutharda begins at the dam. A wooden bridge about 90 m long also provides access to the named attraction on the island. Together with Baroque architectural history and trails through the woods, the town offers different options for a stay—without requiring you to follow a fixed itinerary.

Hejtman Pond: Water and Island Bridge

Hejtman Pond was created around 1560–1570. Its shores have grassy and sandy beaches, a gently sloping entry into the water, a water slide, diving boards, pedal boat rental and piers. There is also a fire pit on the island. This brings together a range of ways to spend time by the water: relaxing on the shore, getting out on the water and stopping on the island. Individual facilities may change, so check the current amenities before your visit.

The attraction “Ostrůvek u rybníku Hejtman s lávkou” can be reached via a wooden pedestrian bridge about 90 m long. If you plan to cross it, check the local visitor infrastructure before travelling.

Two Routes, Different Highlights

The Naučná stezka Mikuláše Rutharda begins at the dam of Hejtman Pond in Chlum u Třeboně and is about 9 km long. The Historická stezka Chlumem has a different focus: it runs from the Hejtman – jih campsite along the castle grounds and the pond dam, then passes the Stations of the Cross by the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the school before reaching the Dešťová zahrada community garden. You can therefore choose between a walk of about nine kilometres and a route with several local cultural stops. Check trail conditions before setting out, as they may change.

Castle and Church: History in the Present Day

Until 1700, the castle in Chlum u Třeboně was a fortress. It was then converted into a single-storey castle with a chapel. Today, the castle and park are in very poor condition and need extensive reconstruction. Check the condition of the castle and park before visiting.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built between 1737 and 1745 in the High Baroque style. On the Historická stezka, it is one stop in a sequence that also includes the Stations of the Cross and the school. The castle and church offer different historical highlights: the transformation of a fortress into a castle, and a religious building in the High Baroque style with clearly documented dates.
