Skořice lies at an altitude of 596 metres on the edge of the Brdy Forests. The Baroque Church of St. Wenceslas stands in the village centre and is visible from afar; three named streams flow through the southern, western and northern valleys. The village’s cultural and local history, as well as the geography of the surrounding area, offer two specific perspectives for planning your trip.

Church and Memorial Sites

The Baroque church dedicated to St. Wenceslas stands on a rise in the village centre. It acquired its present form during renovations in 1677. For visitors interested in historic churches, its location, dedication and renovation date provide specific features to focus on when viewing the building.

The grave of opera singer Ludmila Komancová is in the cemetery beside the church. The online cemetery register can help you find individual graves and people buried there; when searching, check whether the online service is available. Another biographical trace is the memorial plaque to Alois Vavroch on the house at Skořice 91, where he was born and lived.

Five memorials stand on the village square. One of them is a monument to the victims of the First and Second World Wars from Záběhlá, located in the park on the village square in front of the municipal office. People from Záběhlá brought it to Skořice after 2000. A monument to the victims of the First World War comes from the abandoned village of Padrť in the Brdy Military Training Area. A monument in Skořice to the victims of the Second World War commemorates Alois Vavroch, Josef Pavlovič, Jan Vaněk and Václav Krajdl.

Streams, the Edge of the Brdy and Weather

The altitude and proximity to the Brdy Forests bring comparatively harsh climatic conditions, with increased rainfall and snowfall. If you are planning time outdoors, take these weather conditions into account. The valleys can also be distinguished by the direction in which their streams flow: in the south, the Račí potok comes through the valley from the direction of Trokavec. The Bystrý potok runs through the western valley and the forest below the forester’s house to a mill. In the north, the Ledný potok flows below Dubina towards Dobřív; there it joins the Padrťský potok, which is also called Černý.

Cycling Route and Accommodation

For cycling enthusiasts, the Borovno–Dobřív cycling route passes the Church of St. Wenceslas, which is listed as a point of interest along the route. The church is therefore a named cultural landmark along the route. The Dršťka Castle ruins (Losumberk) are in the cadastral area of Skořice v Brdech and are designated an important archaeological site. The Rokycany–Mirošov–Nezvěstice railway line also runs near Skořice.

The “U sv. Jana” inn and guesthouse offer visitors refreshments, meals and accommodation in five rooms. If you are considering staying here, ask directly about current availability.
