Radnice brings together an early Baroque castle, a distinct museum history and routes of notably different lengths. This gives you several ways to plan your visit, with a focus on architecture and local history, nature and culture, or guided visits. The choice becomes clearer when you consider whether you would rather focus on a particular circular route or a cultural and historical theme.

Castle and Museum History

Radnice Castle was built before 1673; its present form dates from after 1719. The present form therefore dates from a different period than the original construction. Those interested in architectural history will find two clearly identified phases here rather than a single construction date.

The Muzeum Josefa Hyláka also has its own architectural connection: it is housed in a burgher’s house from the first third of the 18th century, which later became part of the castle complex. The museum was founded in 1892 as the first museum in the Rokycany District. The town’s history thus brings together the architecture of a burgher’s house and the early history of the museum, without making them part of the same chapter.

An eco-centre that visitors can visit is located in the Radnice synagogue. This site adds another cultural destination to the town’s architectural and museum history. If you would like to include it in your plans, you can consider it a separate focus alongside the castle and the routes.

Circular Routes of Different Lengths

The Za přírodou a historií Radnicka educational trail explores geological, palaeontological, dendrological, botanical and cultural features. It comprises three accessible circular routes. Its range of topics extends from the history of the Earth and fossils to trees, plants and culture. For visitors who would like to explore nature and culture together, this educational trail offers a distinct option alongside the named circular routes.

The three circular routes differ considerably in length and description. The Radnický okruh is 2.3 km long and leads to sights in Radnice and the surrounding area. The Hylákův okruh covers 12.8 km and starts in Radnice’s town square. The Šternberský okruh is 24 km long, starts at Kašpar-Šternberk Square and is suitable for cyclists.

Comparing the routes makes their differing details easier to use: the shortest route focuses on sights in Radnice and the surrounding area, while the 24 km circular route is explicitly described as suitable for cyclists. The starting point for the Hylákův okruh is given as the town square. You can therefore distinguish the routes by length, stated points of interest and activity, rather than treating them as interchangeable options.

Guided Tours and Historic Sites

Guided tours of the historic beer cellars are offered during the summer season, from April to October. Outside the tourist season, tours are available on request. If you would like a tour outside this period, ask in advance. The Radnice Tourist Information Centre provides information and guided tour services and has bicycle racks.

Another historic site lies about 1.5 km southeast of the town, at the edge of the forest: the Jewish cemetery of Radnice. It contains 210 graves with epitaphs in Hebrew, Czech and German. The languages of the inscriptions are a striking detail of the cemetery, setting it apart from the architectural themes in town. Its location and the number of graves give a visit a distinct, clearly defined focus.

Radnice therefore offers several distinct points of interest: architectural history, with two separate periods represented at the castle; the history of the Muzeum Josefa Hyláka; an eco-centre open to visitors; themed circular routes; and guided visits to the historic beer cellars. The specific route lengths help you choose, while the seasonal availability of cellar tours is important when planning your visit.
