When planning a trip to Holoubkov, several aspects of the town take center stage: ponds and the surrounding forest, routes through Holoubkov, and an industrial history with specific dates from the 17th and 19th centuries. This offers a way to get to know the town through its landscape, routes and history.
Ponds and Forest in the Surrounding Area
Holoubkovský rybník covers 14.5 hectares and stretches about one kilometer from the town center in the direction of Mýto. Hamerský rybník, also known as Lamacký or Lamanický rybník, lies in the forest about 0.5 kilometers below Holoubkov. Holoubkovský potok is considered the most important watercourse in this part of the Rokycany District.
To the south of Holoubkov, the Trhoň massif rises in the surrounding area. Together with the surrounding forests, it forms Trhoň Nature Park. Trails run through the forests along picturesque slopes, with views of the surrounding area.
Routes Through Holoubkov
Cycle Route 2158 runs from Rokycany to Strašice and passes through Holoubkov. The red KČT hiking trail 0209 also passes through the town, running from Rokycany to Zbiroh. Cycle Route 2158 heads towards Strašice, while the red KČT hiking trail 0209 heads towards Zbiroh; both pass through Holoubkov. A blue connecting route runs through the town to the Nad Mýtem signpost.
The route information is a useful starting point for planning a specific trip. Before setting off, check the cycle route number and hiking trail markings again.
Industrial History and Culture
Holoubkov’s history is closely connected with iron smelting and the development of ironworks and engineering businesses, which are among the oldest in Bohemia. A new blast furnace was completed beside Holoubkovský rybník in 1662, commissioned by the Royal Chamber. The local engineering works produced its first hand-operated lathe in 1840 and is among the oldest manufacturers of machine tools in the Czech Republic. The two dates refer to different milestones: iron smelting in the 17th century and machine tool manufacturing in the 19th century.
Markova vila in Holoubkov, house number 123, is also an immovable cultural monument. Alongside the industrial history, it provides another cultural point of interest, distinct from the themes of ponds and routes.
