A bus stop inspired by an animated series, a wooded valley and a seasonally open chapel show how varied the discoveries in Němčovice can be. The town lies in Horní Berounka Nature Park; the area borders the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area (CHKO) and the northern edge of the Brdy. This gives you two perspectives to consider when planning: landscapes and wildlife, as well as individual cultural sites with their own historical associations.

Landscape and wildlife

Olešenský potok is a small right-bank tributary of the Berounka in Horní Berounka Nature Park. Below the village of Olešná, it forms a wooded valley up to 60 metres deep. Two scales meet here: the nature park as a larger landscape area and the specific valley of a smaller tributary. If you want to put nature features into context, it helps to distinguish between the regional setting and a named watercourse with its own landform.

The area around Olešenský potok is home to, among other species, fire salamanders, yellow-bellied toads, slowworms and eagle owls. These species represent amphibians, reptiles and birds. Alongside the landscape, a specific variety of animal groups is therefore among the nature themes you can take into account when making your choice.

Visitors can cycle along the Naučná stezka Údolí mloků (Valley of the Salamanders Nature Trail). This provides a named activity option alongside the landscape features for anyone interested in cycling. The nature trail offers a different way to experience nature than simply looking at the stream and wooded valley.

Culture and history

Pařezová chaloupka is an unusual bus stop on road II/232, a second-class road between Rokycany and Kralovice. It was inspired by the 1968 animated series Pohádky z mechu a kapradí; the stop was officially opened on 2 June 2019. The years have different roles here: 1968 is the year of the series, while 2019 is the historical opening date of the stop. Its connection to the animated series gives this unusual stop its own cultural character.

Hradiště Radná offers a different way to explore history. The total fortified area covers 4.5 hectares; the site includes several ramparts and an outer bailey. The area figure gives a sense of the scale of the fortified area, while the ramparts and outer bailey identify its constituent parts. The focus here is therefore a multi-part fortification, rather than a popular-culture feature.

Another historical feature is the column with the Ecce Homo statue. It dates from 1722 and depicts the biblical Ecce Homo motif. The restored original Ecce Homo statue is kept in a chapel that is open to the public during the summer tourist season. If you want to include the chapel in your plans, schedule your visit for that season. This lets you take both the historical feature and its seasonal opening into account.

You can clearly distinguish between nature and cultural themes when choosing what to focus on: the nature area includes the landscape around Olešenský potok and a nature trail that can be cycled. The cultural sites range from the inspired bus stop to the fortification and the Ecce Homo feature. The chapel adds a specific seasonal consideration to keep in mind when planning your visit.
