Kařez offers nature and culture enthusiasts a variety of points of interest: protected ponds, woodland activities and tangible evidence of local history. The Kařezské rybníky natural monument also extends into the cadastral area of Kařez and protects breeding and migratory habitats for waterbirds. St John of Nepomuk Church, the former school and surviving workers’ houses add historical highlights. You can therefore focus your stay on the landscape, architectural history or a mix of both.
Ponds and Woods Around Kařez
The natural monument includes four named ponds: Dolejší Kařezský, Hořejší Kařezský, Bechyňský and Němec. The woods around Kařez are suitable for walks, hikes and picking mushrooms and forest fruits. The woods and ponds around the town are used for recreation and relaxation. This makes specific woodland activities an option alongside the more tranquil enjoyment of the landscape.
Buildings and Local History
St John of Nepomuk Church is a defining landmark of Kařez. It was built between 1942 and 1947 and is the newest church building in the Rokycany District. Its main altar consists of five paintings. The date of construction, its regional context and this feature of the altar offer different ways to explore the church.
The former school in Kařez is a historic building dating from 1830. Together with the church, built in the 1940s, it marks two distinct periods in the town’s history. The workers’ houses offer another perspective: some buildings erected to a uniform design have survived to this day, including groups of houses now known as “Pětidomí” and “sedmidomí.” This provides a view ranging from individually dated buildings to surviving houses built in a uniform style. More than a hundred years separate 1830 from the construction of the church.
The partisan memorial in Kařez commemorates the Podbrdy partisans who were active in the area during the Second World War.
A partisan bunker lies about 3 km east of Kařez. It was built in 1943; nine partisans hid there. Check the condition of the bunker before visiting.
Getting Here by Train or Road

As accessibility information can change following infrastructure work, check the latest information before travelling. The timetable is also essential for planning your specific journey. An interchange on the D5 motorway between Prague and Plzeň is 2.5 km from Kařez. The railway line and the distance to the motorway interchange provide different reference points for planning your journey.
