In Kornatice, walking trails, cycling and village history come together through specific places and traditions. The easy nature trail, with eight stops, offers a different focus from the F. X. France educational trail, which explores prehistoric and medieval traces. There is also the signposted cycling route 2039 and regular village events. This gives you several options for planning your visit: a trail with activities, cultural and historical themes, or a visit timed around a festival.
Educational Trails with Different Focuses
The “OkolĂm Kornatic” nature trail starts at the cultural centre in Kornatice. It is intended as an easy walk in the surrounding area, particularly for families with children. This relatively short circular route has eight stops, information boards and practical activities. This combination gives the trail a clear structure without assuming a specific walking time. If you are looking for a walk with stops and activities, it is quite different from the cultural and historical focus of the F. X. France educational trail.
The F. X. France educational trail introduces visitors to prehistoric and medieval remains in the former cultural landscape. A preserved section of a medieval cart track is part of the trail. Its current route was extended in 2013 and has since ended in Kornatice, at Kornatice railway station. The trail is also equipped with footbridges and rest areas. The railway station is therefore a named endpoint of the route; its archaeological and historical themes are the main focus.
Cycling Route and Traces of Village History
The signposted cycling route 2039 runs from Šťáhlavy through Kornatice, Mešno and Lipnice to SpálenĂ© PoĹ™ĂÄŤĂ. A connection between two cycling routes also runs directly through Kornatice. Both details give cyclists clear reference points without specifying a particular circular route or journey time. If you would rather plan your stay around cycling than the educational trails, you can treat this route information as a separate focus for your visit.
The chapel is the oldest building in the village; its exact age has not yet been established. The chapel and the memorial to local residents who fell in the First World War are surrounded by hundred-year-old lime trees. VeskĂ˝ rybnĂk is on the edge of Kornatice. The village landscape thus combines religious and commemorative features with a clearly identified natural landmark.
Historical traces can also be found in the surrounding area. A 130-metre-long section of the former access road to Lopata Castle has been preserved. The remains of the medieval village of Javor appear as slightly raised, hill-like formations and shallow depressions near small water reservoirs. These features differ from a preserved stretch of road: at Javor, they are traces in the terrain, while the section near Lopata is described as part of a historic access road. This distinction helps put the different types of remains into context.
Village Traditions and Event Dates
The municipality and Sdruženà pro Kornatice jointly organise Masopust every year. A masked procession accompanied by music passes through the village and visits houses; beforehand, permission is sought from the mayor. Slet čarodějnic takes place every year on 30 April. It includes a costumed procession through the village, a bonfire ritual and refreshments. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these traditions, check the specific event date in advance.
Exhibitions at Slavnosti léta change, and some are also offered for sale. The programme also includes displays of historic bicycles with people wearing period costumes. The cultural programme therefore ranges from recurring village traditions with a specified date to exhibitions and historic bicycles. These different themes let you choose what to explore in Kornatice based on your interests in walks, archaeological traces, cycling or local festivals.
