Medový Újezd combines local history with a swimming pool area used in summer and several outdoor activities. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can tailor your stay to your interests: historical monuments and architectural styles, facilities at the swimming pool, or hiking destinations each offer a different focus. The following sections can help you choose what to explore during your stay.

Village history and historical architectural styles

In the lower part of Medový Újezd stands a monument unveiled in May 1923. It commemorates six soldiers who fell in the First World War. A memorial plaque for the victims of the fascist occupation was added later. This brings together two commemorative references at one memorial site.

The first written mention of the village dates from 1336. At that time, Petr z Rožmberka received, among other things, half the village as hereditary property from King Jan Lucemburský. This early record provides a different historical reference point from the 1923 monument and adds to the picture of the village’s history.

Another topic is houses No. 15 and No. 9. The two-storey timber house No. 15 has a stone or masonry ground floor, a timber-framed upper floor, a mansard roof and a gallery with living quarters. It dates from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The cottage No. 9 dates from the first half of the 19th century. By comparison, No. 15 dates to the transition between the two centuries, while No. 9 dates to the first half of the 19th century.

Summer at the swimming pool area

The swimming pool area in Medový Újezd is used during the summer months by local residents, holidaymakers and people from the surrounding municipalities. The facilities include a sauna, refreshments with a summer terrace, sanitary facilities, and a hard court for tennis and ball sports. The pool is fed with clean water from the adjacent forests; water conditions vary by season. Before your visit, check both seasonal accessibility and the current operating status of the individual facilities.

Geology and hiking destinations

The Medový Újezd Natural Monument protects an important palaeontological site from the Middle Bohemian Cambrian in the Lingulella matthewi subzone. Its protected status is therefore due to geological history, offering a different focus from the village’s memorials and historical architectural styles. Protected areas associated with Medový Újezd also include the PP Medový Újezd Natural Monument and Trhoň Nature Park.

There are several specific destinations for hikes. Medový Újezd is the starting point for a hike up Mount Trhoň. The “Přes Trhoň” route passes through the village twice. A crossing of the Brdy ridge also starts in Medový Újezd and heads towards the Vartemberk castle ruins, also known as Vimberk. When choosing a hiking destination, Mount Trhoň and the Brdy ridge, with the route towards the ruins, offer different options.

Bílá skála can be reached from the Medový Újezd side. However, no marked hiking trail goes all the way to the summit. Bear this in mind when planning, and check the trail conditions before setting out; they can change.
