The Vodní hamr Dobřív is a fully operational technical monument dating from the late 19th century. Its exhibition is dedicated to ironworking in the Podbrdsko region and the iron industry in Dobřív. Its subject matter therefore ranges from the regional context to the town’s industrial history. In addition, hiking and cycling routes offer different starting points for planning your trip.

Industrial history and event

Hamernický den takes place every year on the third Saturday in May at the site of the Vodní hamr in Dobřív, a national cultural monument. If you would like to make this event the reason for your trip, check the date for the relevant year in advance. Its recurring date provides a fixed point in time around which you can plan your trip.

Bridge and hiking trails

The Švédský kamenný most is a single-arch rubble-stone bridge over the Padrťský potok. The description thus specifies concrete structural features: the arch shape, the material, and the watercourse crossed by the bridge. Together with the Hamr’s technical monument, it offers a different perspective on Dobřív’s cultural history: here the bridge as a structure takes center stage, while there it is the iron industry and a working technical facility. “Single-arch” describes the number of arches; “rubble stone” identifies the building material.

Two marked hiking trails start at Dobřív’s village square but lead to different destinations. The yellow-marked KČT hiking trail runs north into Trhoň Nature Park. The blue trail leads from the village square to the Švédský most and then through an avenue to the Vodní hamr. When choosing between the routes, you can use these destinations as a guide: the yellow trail leads into the nature park, while the blue one connects the bridge with the Hamr. Markings and conditions may change; check them before setting out.

Cycling connections on different scales

The cycling connections also differ in their geographic scope. Dobřív lies on long-distance cycle route number 3, which connects Regensburg and Prague. Cycle route 2251 leads directly from Dobřív into the hills of the Brdy Protected Landscape Area. Route number 3 places the town on a connection between two cities; route 2251 leads from Dobřív into a specific landscape area. This lets you choose between a long-distance connection and a route heading towards Brdy. Route conditions may change; for cycle route 2251, this also applies to the surface, markings, and access conditions.

When looking for hotels in Dobriv, you can start by considering your travel priorities: should a recurring May date be the reason for your trip, or would you prefer to plan around the destinations on the hiking and cycling routes?
