A Tertiary volcano and a partly preserved historic settlement layout give Příšov two distinct points of interest. The Příšovská homolka Natural Monument represents the area’s geological history; the village chapel, stone pillar and farmsteads tell the story of its buildings. If you are interested in geological features and rural architecture, these are the very aspects by which you can assess Příšov. When choosing a destination, the first question is whether a natural monument, the village character or local events match your travel interests.

Natural Monument and Geological History

The Příšovská homolka Natural Monument protects a Tertiary volcano that became inactive during the Diluvium. Its geological classification thus links the period when the volcano formed with a later phase in Earth’s history, when its activity ended. The natural monument offers a different perspective on Příšov from the village’s architectural history: here, the focus is on the development of a geological formation, while there it is on the partly preserved settlement structure and its buildings. If you are weighing natural and cultural interests when choosing a destination, Příšov offers both, without conflating them.

Village Chapel and Historic Buildings

The historic centre of Příšov, with its village chapel, is considered significant for its heritage value and merits increased attention and protection across the entire area. The chapel has a simple bell-cote at the apex of a pyramidal roof. Another distinctive historic feature is a four-sided stone pillar beneath a horse chestnut tree on Road II/180 towards Ledce. It dates from the late 18th century and bears a heavily damaged, smaller-than-life-size statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The two structures are markedly different: the chapel’s roof structure catches the eye, while the pillar’s description includes its date, location and damaged condition. The historic centre is therefore about more than just the chapel as a single building.

Farmsteads, Facades and Settlement Layout

Příšov has partly preserved its historic settlement layout and original farmsteads. Many of the larger and smaller farmsteads have building fabric dating predominantly from 1850 to 1930. Many of these buildings retain picturesque ornamental stucco facades, mainly in pseudo-historicist styles, particularly Neo-Renaissance. This makes it possible to consider the architectural history at several scales: individual facade details, the different sizes of the farmsteads and the shape of the village layout. The partly preserved settlement structure is an important part of the village character, but it is not a complete preservation of the original state. If architecture is one of your criteria for choosing a destination, you can therefore look at both the individual historic buildings and the rural architectural form of the farmsteads.

Getting There and Planning Your Trip

Příšov can be reached via Road II/180 from Road I/20 between Plzeň and Karlovy Vary. This road connection is a practical consideration when choosing a destination and can be factored into your travel plans. You can also assess Příšov according to the themes you want your stay to focus on: the natural monument offers a geological highlight, while the chapel, pillar, farmsteads and settlement layout showcase the area’s architectural history. You can therefore base your accommodation search on whether this combination of nature and village character suits your trip.

A Glimpse of Community Life

The Christmas tree lighting in Příšov took place on 7 December 2024 and 6 December 2025. On 30 April 2026, the Příšov Volunteer Fire Brigade held a traditional maypole-raising event in Olšiny. A traditional carnival procession made its way through Příšov on Saturday, 21 February 2026. These specific events span the Christmas season, carnival and spring. They complement the area’s natural and architectural history with different community events that took place at different times of year.
