Local history, architecture, and specific rail and cycling connections give Kozolupy a range of points of interest for planning a trip. The Muzeum Kozolupy is dedicated to the municipality and its surroundings; the Kostel sv. Štěpána church has its own architectural history. Also here are the railway station on the Plzeň–Bezdružice railway line 177 and cycling route No. 37, which passes through the town. If culture, religious architecture, or cycling influence your travel plans, you can take these features into account when choosing where to stay.
Local History and Museum
The earliest documented written reference to Kozolupy dates from 1186. The Muzeum Kozolupy was founded in 2016 to present the municipality and its surroundings. The two dates point to different things: 1186 to the town’s early written history, and 2016 to the museum’s founding. Visits are possible on Saturdays from 2 to 5 p.m. during school holidays, or by individual arrangement with museum attendant Brachtelem. To make an appointment, contact him at 774 248 251. Since regular visiting hours are limited to school holidays, it is best to arrange your visit in advance.
Kostel sv. Štěpána Church
The Kostel sv. Štěpána church is a Baroque replacement building constructed between 1777 and 1782. It replaced a medieval church first mentioned in 1366. This distinguishes two historical reference points: 1366 relates to the mention of the predecessor building, while 1777 to 1782 marks the construction of the Baroque church. The rectangular nave describes the main space’s basic form. Other features include a tower on the façade, a side chapel, and a sacristy. The chasuble-shaped windows and the tower with its onion dome are also distinctive features. Anyone interested in church architecture can connect the timeline with the different building elements here, rather than identifying the church solely by its construction dates.
Rail and Cycling
Kozolupy railway station is on the Plzeň–Bezdružice railway line 177. This gives you a specific rail connection to use when planning your journey; check connections and departure times for your travel date. Cycling route No. 37 also passes through Kozolupy. This offers another planning option if you would like to travel by bicycle. The station and cycling route serve different purposes: the railway line is a point of reference for planning your journey, while the cycling route is the designated option for a ride through the town.
Another proposal was for a separate cycling and pedestrian path between Kozolupy and Město Touškov. It was intended for shared use and travel in both directions, with a planned length of 0.735 km. This planned connection differs from cycling route No. 37, which passes through Kozolupy: the proposal names two endpoints and a specific length, while the route runs through the town. If you would like to include the path in a current cycling trip or walk, check in advance whether it is open for use.
