Nemanice lies below the Haltrava Ridge, which reaches an elevation of 882 metres; the ridge separates the village from the rest of Czech territory. Several reference points help put the area in context: the history of the Baroque church, its designated natural and landscape features, and two cycling routes of different lengths. The village profile thus encompasses architectural history, landscape and a specific comparison of two routes.
Church and history
Nemanice was founded shortly before 1591 under the name Loužnice. The Baroque Church of St John of Nepomuk was built much later, under the patronage of the Stadion family, between 1781 and 1784. Its general renovation began in 1991. This chronology distinguishes the early founding of the village, the later construction of the church and the start of the general renovation.
A restored chapel, which is a cultural monument, stands in Novosedly near Nemanice. It serves as a place to meet, reflect quietly and remember the eventful history of the borderland. Alongside church architecture, remembrance and reflection are therefore among the village’s cultural themes.
Landscape and routes
Nemanice is one of five settlement segments in Zone IV of the Český les Protected Landscape Area. Together with the Haltrava Ridge, this provides a spatial context on two levels: the ridge describes the village’s location and reaches 882 metres, while the protected-area designation identifies Nemanice’s position within a specific zone.
The area around Nemanice is drained by the Nemanický potok, which belongs to the Danube catchment area. Its floodplain is designated as a natural asset in the land-use plan of November 2023. The stream and the floodplain provide different information: the stream places the area in its hydrological context, while the floodplain is designated as a natural asset.
The existing hiking and cycling routes in Nemanice run mainly along field and forest tracks, as well as third-class roads with little car traffic. You can take these different types of route into account when planning. For cycling routes, it is also advisable to check the signage and trail conditions before setting out, as they can change.
A comparison of two cycling routes
Cycling Route 2280 runs from Bělá nad Radbuzou via Bezvěrov and Šidlákov to Nemanice. It is 23 kilometres long. Route 2281 also starts in Bělá nad Radbuzou and runs via Újezd Sv. Kříže, Hostouň, Drahotín and Hvožďany to Nemanice; it is 26 kilometres long.
Both routes therefore run from Bělá nad Radbuzou to Nemanice, but differ in both the sequence of the places named and their length. Route 2281 is three kilometres longer than Route 2280. If you are choosing between them, you can compare their distances and the sequence of places along each route, without treating the two itineraries as a single route.
A special event tradition
At the Nemanická LáFka, participants traditionally try in pairs to cross a running bridge over a swimming pool without getting their feet wet. This event format adds a shared challenge to the enduring themes of the church, local history and landscape.
