Discover Babylon through its natural attractions, park facilities and trails in the surrounding area. A balancing rock lies at the edge of the forest, while the Lázeňský Landscape Park brings together an educational trail, playground and nature maze. Babylonský Pond is a natural outdoor swimming area with a sandy bottom. For planning purposes, it is worth distinguishing between the different highlights: a natural attraction, the facilities of a park and an eleven-kilometre route offer different ways to spend time outdoors.

Water, Balancing Rock and Park

Babylonský Pond is a natural outdoor swimming area in Babylon with a sandy bottom. The swimming area in Babylon has a shallow entry into the water; access may vary seasonally. Check access in advance if swimming is an important part of your plans.

Čertův kámen (Devil’s Rock) is located at the edge of the forest in Babylon. The balancing rock, which weighs about 40 tonnes, is approximately four metres long. Visitors can set it rocking again. Its distinctive feature lies not only in its size, but also in the rock’s movement.

Lázeňský Landscape Park includes a walkable educational trail, a children’s playground and a nature maze. The three facilities offer different ways to spend your time: walk along the trail, use the playground or explore the nature maze. The park therefore offers more than just a single path and has a different focus from a visit to the balancing rock.

Hiking Trails and Getting Your Bearings

The Čertova Educational Trail is 11 kilometres long and runs through the area around Babylon. As a longer hike, it offers a different way to spend time outdoors than visiting a single natural attraction. The route gives you a clear distance to work with when planning, if you would like to include an educational trail in your stay.

A green-marked hiking trail leads from Babylon to nearby Sokolova vyhlídka. At the site, mature trees block the view of the surrounding area. Plan the outing as a walk to a natural attraction, rather than for an open panoramic view.

Another option is the shared paved path along the road to Domažlice, which runs from Babylon to Újezd-Havlovice railway station. It is suitable for pedestrians, cyclists, inline skaters and cross-country skiers. These different uses make it a versatile route; however, the surface and access may change. Check the conditions in advance if you plan to rely on the path.

Local History and Culture

Babylon began as a logging settlement beside Pařezov Pond, which was later renamed Babylonský. The first written mention of Babylon dates from 1587. In 1928, the area was included in the official list of spa resorts. The two dates mark different aspects of local history: 1587 refers to the written mention, and 1928 to its later status as a spa resort.

A recurring cultural event is the Léto Babylon festival. It takes place every year on the first Saturday of the summer holidays; the exact programme for future editions may vary. Since the date is tied to the summer holidays, check the specific festival date before travelling if you would like to plan your stay around it.
