A depression around the source of the Slatina Brook and a nature park ringed by peaks define the landscape around Vidice. St. Apollonia Church offers another perspective on the village. Together, these features provide different points of interest to help you decide whether Vidice suits your travel plans.
Landscape and Trails Around Vidice
Vidice lies in a depression around the source of the Slatina Brook. The municipality includes the mostly forested Sedmihoří Nature Park. This park also contains a depression, encircled to the south, west, and north by a ring of eleven peaks. Racovský vrch is the highest, at 619 metres. The location of the village and the nature park’s distinctive landform are therefore two specific natural features to explore.
The Sedmihoří educational trail runs through the municipality and has twelve information panels. Another way to get your bearings on foot is the yellow-marked hiking trail. It passes through the municipality towards Kakov, over Racovský vrch, and on to Mezholezy. Check the local signage when planning your route.
Cyclists also have a named route: marked cycle route 2242 runs via Bernartice, Sychrov, and Vidice, continuing towards route 2241. Its details differ from those of the yellow hiking trail: this route features several villages and continues onto another route, while the hiking trail heads towards Kakov and passes over Racovský vrch on its way to Mezholezy. Check the route and local signage for the cycle route as well.
St. Apollonia and the Pilgrimage
St. Apollonia Church stands north of Vidice, in the fields beside the road to Bernartice. It was probably built in the 17th century as a Baroque pilgrimage church. Its furnishings include pieces from the second half of the 17th century and the first half of the 18th century. The façade and roofing were restored in 1994–1995.
The first pilgrimage of the year takes place in Vidice every year. The date and programme vary. During the 2023 pilgrimage celebrations, a Mass was held at St. Apollonia Church. If you want to plan your trip around the pilgrimage, check the current date and programme in advance.
Considering Vidice as a Destination
The local attractions offer two distinct focuses to help you decide: the nature park and marked trails on one hand, and the church and pilgrimage on the other. When looking for a holiday rental in Vidice, consider which of these aspects you want to shape your stay. Plan around the specific destinations; for a hike or cycle ride, check the signage, and for a pilgrimage trip, bear in mind that the date varies.
For orientation, Vidice lies on the road connecting Horšovský Týn with Bor u Tachova. Together with the church’s location north of the village and the named routes, this provides a concrete framework for locating Vidice on the map.
