In Zámrsk, nature watching and history go hand in hand: Rzy Bird Park lies mostly within the municipalities of Dobříkov and Zámrsk. The castle, archive and church offer other perspectives on the town. When planning your visit, it is worth considering these highlights separately: watching the water, architectural history and musical events appeal to different interests.
Watching the Water at Rzy Bird Park
Rzy Bird Park has several spots where you can watch the water. This makes it a distinct highlight alongside Zámrsk’s historical attractions. Seasonal restrictions apply in sensitive wetlands to avoid disturbance. Take these requirements into account when planning your visit.
The park extends mostly across two municipal areas. This geographical detail is helpful if you want to distinguish Rzy Bird Park from Zámrsk’s cultural monuments. Here, the focus for nature watching is on the water; the history of the castle and church offers a different way to experience the town.
The Castle, Archive and Concerts
The Státní oblastní archiv Zámrsk has been housed in the castle since 1959. Researchers from across the Czech Republic and abroad travel there to consult its archive collections. The castle is not normally open to the public. However, concerts are regularly held in its square, arcaded courtyard. If you would like to attend a concert, check the dates in advance.
The building’s history also offers several points of reference. Remains of the original fortress survive in the castle’s east wing; it was converted into a castle at the beginning of the 17th century. Traces of the older structure thus remain alongside the building’s later use as a castle. The former palm house, built in 1843, also stands in Zámecký park Zámrsk.
The enclosed Zámecký park is accessible year-round. Individual gates or access arrangements may change, so check before your visit. The park and palm house add another historical facet to the town, while Rzy Bird Park is devoted to nature watching.
The Church and Technical Monuments
The Church of St Martin is a Rococo church dating from 1782. It has an organ from 1910 that is in relatively good condition, and it hosts classical music concerts. Together with the concerts regularly held in the castle courtyard, this offers music lovers a clear comparison: two venues with different historical settings.
Zámrsk’s historical and technical monuments also include the former distillery and starch factory. It was originally a mill, and includes a millrace on the Loučná. The railway station building is also among the municipality’s historical and technical monuments. These buildings add examples of other aspects of local history to the picture of the castle and church.
Getting There
The main railway line from Prague via Česká Třebová to Olomouc runs through the cadastral area of the municipality of Zámrsk. For specific travel plans, check the current connections and stops in the timetable. This information about the railway’s route provides an overview at the municipal level; by itself, it says nothing about journey times or individual connections.
When choosing what to focus on, you can consider nature watching at the bird park, the archive and architectural history, and musical events separately.
