Churches, the fire station and cycling routes represent two sides of a stay in Lisnice: the town’s architectural history and time spent cycling. The town is also situated on the Divoká Orlice River in the foothills of the Orlické Mountains. The range of attractions extends from sacred architecture to a cycling route with a stated estimated duration.
Bridges and townscape
Lisnice is known for its seven bridges and numerous footbridges. Together, they are among the town’s defining features. A statue of the Holy Trinity, dating from 1889, stands by one of the bridges. Alongside the bridges, it provides a specific monument and a distinct point of historical interest. Anyone interested in local history will find this a topic to explore alongside church architecture and the history of the fire service.
Church and architectural history
The Church of St. Joseph is Pseudo-Romanesque and was built between 1865 and 1868. It replaced a chapel built in 1788. The two dates mark distinct building phases: first the chapel, and later the church. This makes it possible to trace the history of church construction in Lisnice through a specific predecessor building. Together with the statue of the Holy Trinity, it forms a cultural highlight clearly distinct from cycling and planning how long to spend on a ride.
Fire station and cycling route to the reservoir
The historic brick fire station in Líšnice was ceremonially opened on 13 July 1913 and bears the inscription “To our honour, to protect our neighbour.” A cycling route to the Pastviny Reservoir passes around the building. For cyclists, the fire station is also a distinctive landmark along the route described. The building combines a precise historical reference with the cycling theme, without requiring a visit inside.
The light blue “Žamberská” route
This cycling route starts at the sports complex in Líšnice, where there is also an information board. The route is rated as moderately difficult. The estimated duration is two hours without stops. If you would like to stop along the way, allow extra time. Unlike the route to the Pastviny Reservoir, the light blue route is defined by its starting point, difficulty level and estimated duration. This gives you different information to help plan your outing than the route leading to the reservoir.
A July event
The Líšnice Volunteer Fire Brigade holds the unusual firefighting attack competition “O putovní pohár starosty obce Líšnice” every year on 5 July. This recurring event adds another point of interest to the architectural history and cycling attractions. If you would like to plan your stay around it, check the announcement for the relevant year before travelling.
Sokolovna: history and accommodation
After a fire in 1935, the Sokolovna in Líšnice was built within 18 months. It was ceremonially reopened on 25 October 1936 and was subsequently used for cultural and sporting activities for the whole community. This sequence connects the building’s history with its former role in community life. The Sokolovna Líšnice also offers accommodation. Check availability before booking.
