The Formanská cycling route passes close to Újezd u Chocně, with a turnoff leading towards the village. The area also has specific traces of its history: a former parish church, a named lime-tree avenue, a memorial and an iron cross. When looking for a holiday rental, this gives you a clear question to consider: should a bike ride be the focus of your stay, or would you rather explore historical traces?

The Formanská Cycling Route and Its Wooded Landscape

The Formanská cycling route is 9 km long and has an elevation gain of 75 m. It runs mostly along flat terrain, with gentle ascents and descents, through varied woodland. It is designated for mountain bikes, gravel bikes, cyclocross bikes, trekking bikes and children’s mountain bikes. The length and elevation gain can be considered separately when planning your day: 9 km gives you the route distance, while 75 m adds information about the elevation profile.

Route details may change as a result of maintenance or revisions; surface conditions can vary seasonally, and the route may change depending on local path conditions. Check the latest route information before setting off.

Two-thirds of Újezd u Chocně’s cadastral area is wooded. This proportion adds a landscape perspective to the individual historical traces. The route describes a specific ride in terms of distance, elevation gain and bike types; the woodland proportion, by contrast, applies to the cadastral area as a whole. Together, these details offer two different scales: a quantified activity and the landscape at municipal level.

Local History Along the Church, Avenue and Roads

The branch church of Saint Vitus the Martyr formerly served as a parish church. Its change from a former parish church to a branch church reflects a shift in its ecclesiastical role.

Another historical trace is the lime-tree avenue from the Postolov estate towards Plchůvky. It was planted after 1578 and was named “Knížecí alej”. The date and distinctive name make this landscape feature specific.

A memorial to Gendarmerie Sergeant Karel Zwieger stands on the road to Dolní Jelení; it was restored by Společenství Veteránů Policie ČR. The iron cross “U Chadimova kříže” was erected in 1886 on the road to Choceň. They mark different aspects of local history: the memorial focuses on a person identified by name, while the cross has a recorded name and year of erection. Their locations differ: the avenue leads from Postolov towards Plchůvky, while the memorial and cross stand on the roads to Dolní Jelení and Choceň.

In Postolov, a hydroelectric power station now stands on the site of a former mill powered by a water turbine and a sawmill. This change of use adds to the history of the local church, avenue and memorial sites.
