The Church of St. Anne, the surroundings shaped by grassland and adjoining forests, and historic trails give Hornà Lipka a range of different facets. When planning a stay, you can focus on architectural history, the landscape or the trails. The history of fortifications in the Králicko area also offers a subject of its own.
Church and Local History
The present-day Church of St. Anne stands on the site of a stone chapel dedicated to Saint Barbara, Virgin and Martyr, dating from 1768. Its present-day Neoclassical form probably dates from 1818. On 26 May 1923, the tower burned down after being struck by lightning. During its reconstruction, the original onion dome was replaced by a pyramidal tower. The chapel site, Neoclassical form and subsequent reconstruction thus trace several phases of the building’s history.
An old trade route to Kladsko once passed through Hornà Lipka. This adds a historic transport connection to the church’s history: the village is also linked to a former route in the direction of Kladsko.
Grassland, Forests and Water
The district of Hornà Lipka and its wider surroundings are characterized by a high proportion of preserved permanent grassland and the extensive forest areas adjoining it. Grassland and forest are two distinctive features of the landscape. The description explicitly covers both the district and its wider surroundings—a useful distinction if you do not want to focus your stay on just one particular spot.
The LipkovskĂ˝ potok also helps put the landscape in context: it drains the HornĂ Lipka area, flows east of the area and is part of the Morava river basin. This brings together a local landscape feature and its place within a larger catchment area.
Hiking and Cycling Routes
A red-marked hiking trail runs between Heřmanice and Hornà Lipka, then continues in the direction of Prostřednà Lipka. Regional cycle route 4068 runs between Dolnà Lipka, Prostřednà Lipka and Hornà Lipka. The distinction is clear for navigation: the hiking trail is described as continuing towards Prostřednà Lipka, while the cycle route passes through the three named villages. Check the signage and route locally before planning your trip.
The History of Fortifications in the Králicko Area
Museum K-S 8 features exhibitions on Czechoslovak fortifications, the Carpathian-Dukla Operation, the underground Richard factory and the Litoměřice concentration camp. If you plan to visit the museum, check the latest visitor information in advance.
The K-S 8 “U nádražÔ infantry bunker is 50 metres from ÄŚervenĂ˝ Potok railway station. This distance provides a specific reference point for locating the bunker. The K-S 9 “Mezi lesĂky” infantry bunker is directly adjacent to the HĹŻrka artillery fortress. It was built in 1936 as the first fortification structure in the Králicko area and was badly damaged by intense shelling during the occupation. Its construction date, location and war damage illustrate different aspects of the region’s fortification history.
When looking for a holiday apartment, it may help to decide first what you want to focus on during your stay: local history and landscape, the trails described here or the history of fortifications in the Králicko area. You can then plan specific days around the relevant route and visitor information.
