Česká Třebová combines insights into railway history with Velorex exhibitions, historic buildings and the Peklák ski area. This lets you choose different priorities when planning your trip, from a short Velorex ride and museum visits to seasonal activities on the mountain. The places and activities below offer practical ideas to help you choose your stay.
Peklák: Routes, Trails and Winter Sports
The Peklák bike resort has 25 km of routes and 19 km of trails across six difficulty levels. In winter, the ski area includes an 800 m red run and an 80 m blue run; the blue run is designated for ski lessons. Peklák also offers evening skiing and a ski school with a conveyor belt. The routes and runs describe different activities, not one continuous programme. If you are planning ski lessons, evening skiing or biking, check the details for the relevant season.
Railways and Velorex at the City Museum
The permanent railway exhibition at the Městské muzeum Česká Třebová traces the history of rail travel from the mid-19th century. Its focus is on the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic. Another exhibition is dedicated to the OS-KAR vehicle and its origins and development; it was later called Velorex. The display includes a scale model that children can sit in.
The museum also offers Velorex rides that can be booked seasonally. The short ride passes through the town centre and surrounding area, covers about 4 km and takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes. The long ride can last up to an hour and is limited to a maximum of 40 km. The two options therefore differ in both possible duration and distance. If a ride suits your stay, check its availability before travelling.
Rotunda, Chapel and Church Music
The Rotunda svaté Kateřiny is the only surviving Romanesque rotunda in the Pardubický kraj. In November, the Jabkancová pouť takes place at the rotunda. Visitors can try českotřebovské “jabkance”: potato cakes filled with quark. The event combines a visit to the historic building with a local speciality. As details may change from year to year, check the dates for your trip.
The Kaple Panny Marie Pomocné is an immovable cultural monument in the Classicist style. Legends of miraculous healings are associated with it: pilgrims are said to have used the water of the so-called Pavlova studánka and prayed for the help of the Virgin Mary. These accounts, as legends, tell of the site's religious significance, not of proven healing effects.
Concerts featuring organ music are held regularly at the Kostel sv. Jakuba Většího. During the season, the church is open to the general public and tourists; check opening arrangements before visiting. The cultural monument, legends and music offer different ways to explore local history and religious heritage.
Kozlov and Kozlovský kopec
The Chaloupka Maxe Švabinského, house number 50, lies on the edge of the village of Kozlov below the summit of Kozlovský kopec. Visitors can see an interior where time seems to have stood still more than a century ago. This wording describes the impression made by the interior, not a claim that it has been preserved unchanged.
At Kozlovský kopec, the observation platform of the lookout tower is reached by climbing more than 133 steps. In summer, the area offers a range of routes for cyclists and tourists. Together with the seasonal skiing options at Peklák, this provides a choice of culture, views and outdoor activity. You can decide which of these themes will shape your stay based on the time of year and your personal interests.
