A wooden bell tower dating from 1797 and an observation tower offering distant views when the weather allows give Dlouhoňovice distinct historical and scenic points of interest. There is also an educational trail, hiking paths, a cycling route and seasonal sports. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, these features may help you choose where to stay: would you rather focus on local history, hiking destinations, views or activities available at a particular time of year?
On foot and by bike
The 4.2 km educational trail starts at the railway station and provides information about local history and the area’s geological origins. The station is on line No. 021 and has been called Žamberk since it was built in 1874. This means the educational trail’s starting point combines a specific route detail with a historical feature of its own.
A yellow-marked hiking trail also passes through Dlouhoňovice, leading to Písečná and the ruins of Žampach Castle. In the opposite direction, you can hike through the Kriegwaldy valley to Litice Castle and continue on to Potštejn Castle. The destinations distinguish the two hiking directions: Písečná and Žampach in one direction, Litice and Potštejn in the other.
For cyclists, route CT 18 passes through the town along the Choceň – České Libchavy – Žampach – Dlouhoňovice – Žamberk section. The sequence of place names shows where Dlouhoňovice lies along this stretch. As well as hiking trails, visitors can therefore explore a specifically named cycling route and its direction.
Local history and distant views
The wooden bell tower dating from 1797 has been preserved in Dlouhoňovice. The observation tower adds more recent dates to this historical connection: it was completed on 16 September 2009 and officially opened on 19 September 2009. At its opening in 2009, its entry in the Czech Book of Records was also confirmed. Together, the bell tower and observation tower mark two different points in the town’s history.
In fine weather, the observation tower offers views of the entire ridge of the Orlické Mountains, the Králický Sněžník massif and Buková hora. In good visibility, the Krkonoše Mountains can also be seen on the left-hand horizon. The view therefore depends explicitly on the weather and visibility; the stated horizons are not guaranteed on every visit.
Seasonal sports
The Dlouhoňovice ski area has a floodlit ski lift with artificial snowmaking, as well as groomed cross-country ski trails. Seasonal use depends on snow and local conditions. In summer, the floodlit ski lift can also be used for grass skiing and rides on mountain scooters. The focus therefore changes with the seasons: winter activities include the ski lift and cross-country trails, while grass skiing and mountain scooters are available in summer.
Dlouhoňovice’s sports area includes a children’s playground; there is also a skate park in the town. These two facilities add specific leisure options to the trails and seasonal activities. When planning your stay, you can therefore weigh up hiking destinations, the cycling route, local history, views and sports tied to particular seasons, rather than focusing your trip on just one theme.
