In Krasíkov, the riverbed of the Moravská Sázava forms a large S; there are also the remains of an Augustinian monastery and several different chapels. That makes it useful to compare options when looking for a holiday apartment: local history, the river and hiking offer different focal points.
Monastery Ruins and Chapels
Only parts of the surrounding walls of the church building remain from the Augustinian monastery, rising above ground level. The presbytery, cloister and other buildings in the monastery complex are likely to survive as archaeological remains. The distinction between walls still standing above ground and the likely remains of other parts of the complex helps put its size into perspective.
The Chapel of the Guardian Angels (Andělů strážných) was built in the Baroque style in 1725 and stands in the center of the village on road II/368 from Štíty to Moravská Třebová. In front of the chapel is a statue of Saint Florian made of Maletín sandstone. An inscription on its pedestal states that Johann Habiger of house number 57 commissioned it in 1828. The construction year and the commission year are two different historical dates: 1725 dates the chapel, while 1828 dates the commission for the statue.
The Holy Trinity monument stands on the Sázava between a concrete bridge and a power station near house number 75. Its sandstone pedestal bears the year 1803. A deconsecrated Neoclassical chapel is located at house number 122; the sandstone lintel above its door bears the year 1814.
The River and Railway Orientation
In Krasíkov, the Moravská Sázava forms a large S. When water levels are suitable, the river is often used by canoeists. These are two different points to bear in mind when planning: the S-shaped course describes the local landscape, while paddling depends on suitable water levels.
The railway also provides a clear point of reference for the village. Krasíkov has the last railway station and tunnel on the Czech section of the main railway line. Trains heading towards Olomouc enter a 1,098-meter-long railway tunnel near Krasíkov.
Hiking from the Station
A hiking route description published in 2021 gives a distance of 8.9 km, starting and ending at Krasíkov station. It leads to Koruna Panny Marie, crosses footbridges over the Moravská Sázava, passes through the area above the Krasíkovský tunnel and reaches the village chapel. The route also follows the former railway corridor towards the old Tatenický tunnel. This makes the described loop a combination of a river crossing and a former railway line. As trail conditions can change, check them before setting out.
This provides a concrete basis for choosing the focus of your stay: the chapels and monastery ruins reflect Krasíkov’s architectural history, while the river offers a landscape perspective and, when conditions allow, the option of paddling. Those who prefer to explore on foot can follow the published route, with a clearly defined distance and a start and finish at the station.
