ÄŚenkovice combines a strong focus on winter sports with historic cultural sites and seasonal outdoor activities. This makes one specific question key when choosing the destination: should your stay focus primarily on downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, or summer activities? Cultural monuments and a natural monument add distinct themes to these activities; however, local offerings vary by season.
Winter downhill runs and snow park
The Čenkovice ski area has seven downhill runs, two of which are designated for night skiing. The area also has a snow park with its own lift. This means downhill skiing, night skiing, and the snow park are available as distinct winter sports options. The ski area configuration may change seasonally, and the snow park’s operation may also vary by season. Check the latest information about the facilities before your trip.
Cross-country skiing on trails of varying lengths
More than 30 kilometers of machine-groomed cross-country trails are maintained in the Čenkovice, Buková hora, and Suchý vrch area. Three trails are designated for the winter season, measuring 8.3 km, 8.6 km, and 17.5 km; they connect to the cross-country trails of the Orlické hory Mountains. The range of trail lengths makes distance a practical selection criterion: the 17.5 km trail is considerably longer than the two trails under nine kilometers. Machine grooming depends on snow and weather conditions. Check the latest trail conditions before setting out.
Summer activities and off-road karts
During the summer season, the Sportovnà areál in Čenkovice is open to visitors. It offers food and drink, a tennis court, a mini-golf course, a small climbing wall, and courts for volleyball, nohejbal, and football. There is also a children’s playground with a sandbox. Opening details may vary; check them before your visit.
Off-road karts are another activity. A ski lift takes riders to the top of the hill, and the descent follows the grassy Vigona ski slope. The karts are designed for a safe downhill ride and are suitable for children and adults. As this is a seasonal activity, check whether it is currently operating before you arrive.
Church, historic buildings, and sculptures
The protected cultural site kostel sv. Vavřince comprises the church, the boundary wall, and the cemetery gate. The late Baroque church was built from 1780 to 1782 on the site of an earlier wooden church, which was first mentioned in 1667. The site therefore has two distinct historical milestones: the mention of the earlier church building and the construction of the present-day late Baroque building.
Other artistic and cultural monuments include the stone KĹ™ĂĹľ u kostela sv. VavĹ™ince. It stands on a pedestal with a figurative relief, dates from 1800, and was restored in 1920. The socha sv. Jana NepomuckĂ©ho is a valuable sculpture from the High Baroque period, dating to 1736. The bĂ˝valá evangelická fara ÄŤp. 68 is also known as a historically significant building from the first half of the 19th century.
ÄŚenkoviÄŤka natural monument
The local flora also has its own place in the area’s character: the Čenkovička natural monument protects an abundant population of spring snowflakes. Alongside winter sports and architectural history, nature conservation and a distinctive plant species are also themes to consider when planning a trip.
