Dolní Čermná offers several different ways to make the most of a stay: the parish Church of St. George above the market square, the family nature trail, which is around six kilometres long, and a museum with ethnographic and natural history sections. You can plan your visit around your own interests, focusing on architectural history, collections or a tour through the countryside.
Churches and Historic Buildings
The parish Church of St. George is a landmark of Dolní Čermná. It stands on a promontory bordered by the Čermenka stream and is surrounded by an old cemetery. The stone tower was completed in 1559; the stone nave was built onto the older tower. The stone bridge in Dolní Čermná bears the date 1308. The historic cemetery chapel of St. Barbara dates from the early 18th century.
Another church stands in the village of Jakubovice: the filial Church of St. Anthony of Padua was built in 1850. It has Hanisch organs from the 19th century with ten stops; the bellows are still operated by hand. The pilgrimage in honour of St. Anthony takes place at the church on the Sunday around 13 June, the feast day of St. Anthony of Padua. Jakubovice thus offers a connection to a religious feast day as well as architectural history.
Museum with Ethnographic and Natural History Sections
The museum of the market town of Dolní Čermná first opened its exhibits to the public in the summer of 2001. Visits can be arranged in person or by telephone. The museum has an ethnographic section and a natural history section. The natural history section includes exhibits on birds, small game, rodents, antlers and mounted antlered heads. There are also collections of butterflies and beetles, minerals and preserved reptiles. Together, the collections illustrate life in the region’s natural habitats.
Family Nature Trail and Countryside
The Dolní Čermná Family Nature Trail is about six kilometres long and can be explored on foot, by bicycle or with a pushchair. It starts and ends at the health and sports complex. Along the route are three covered rest areas, information boards and other educational stations about the environment. The route leads to the Crk forest spring. Topics include the birds of the surrounding area and legends associated with the different locations.
The route combines a manageable, clearly stated length with several stops and a variety of themes. When planning a trip, you can take all this information into account: the trail is not just a route, but also offers insights into nature and local legends. Dolní Čermná is located in the Podorlická Highlands, within the Žamberská Highlands and the Čermenská pahorkatina landscape district. A historic pond covering 16 hectares was created here in the mid-17th century.
