Slepotice lies near the Loučná River. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross stands in the centre; faint remains of the castle grounds survive in an orchard behind house No. 1. The memorial to the fallen is beside the church. A seasonal leisure area at the fire-water reservoir adds to the historic attractions. This lets you choose between local history, architecture and a summer offering whose operation is weather-dependent during your stay.

Church, Architecture and Remembrance

The present-day Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was built in 1818. It is a single-nave building with a five-sided presbytery and a tower topped by an onion dome. Single-nave means that the church has one main nave; the presbytery is the area by the altar. The five sides and the shape of the tower’s roof are further specific features of its architectural form. Its location is also part of the character of the place: the church stands on elevated ground in the centre of Slepotice.

The memorial to the fallen stands directly beside the church. There is also a large cross in Slepotice, depicting Christ on the cross, the Virgin Mary and Saint John. The cross was acquired from the former Minorite monastery in Pardubice. These memorials and the church are separate sights: the memorial is beside the church, while no more precise location is given here for the cross.

Traces of the Castle Grounds

The Slepotice fortress was included in the division of the paternal estate documented on 15 April 1510. Faint remains of the large castle grounds survive in an orchard behind house No. 1. The described terrain includes an inner platform that is now only faintly discernible. It is surrounded by a partly filled-in moat, which is most clearly visible on the eastern side.

The year 1510 refers to the division of the estate; it does not date the features of the site described today. The historical mention and the terrain therefore provide different clues to the history of the place: one situates the fortress in a specific event, while the other describes the platform and moat. Those interested in castle history will find both a historical reference and a brief description of the surviving traces here.

Leisure Area in the Summer Season

The leisure area at the Slepotice fire-water reservoir is open during the summer season. However, its operation depends on weather conditions and water and air temperatures. It is therefore not a reliably available year-round addition to the historic attractions. If you plan to visit the area, check in advance whether conditions allow it to operate.

This difference has a practical bearing on when to travel: the church and the described traces of the castle grounds offer insights into local history, while the leisure area is seasonal and depends on the conditions mentioned. Plan according to whether you are mainly interested in architecture and history or would also like to include the summer activities. This way, the seasonal limitation remains part of your planning rather than being mistaken for a guarantee of opening.
