Tetov combines local history and architecture with forests that attract hikers, cyclists and mushroom pickers. This means different interests come into play when choosing a place to stay: local landmarks and architectural styles, as well as activities in the forest. Local events add community occasions to these themes.
Founding and name
Tetov was founded in 1791 by Jan Oktavián Kinský, who belonged to the Chlumec nad Cidlinou estate. The village name also refers to this estate: it derives from the names of its owners. The year of its founding and the origin of its name answer two different questions—when Tetov was founded and what its name is derived from.
Its administrative history includes a later development. Tetov formerly belonged to the municipal association of the political municipality of Kundratice; its separation was approved in 1937. This approval adds a distinct administrative context to the story of the village’s founding.
Landmarks in the village
The village green is home to a cross with a niche containing a statue of the Virgin Mary and a wooden bell tower. Tetov also has a monument to President Masaryk and the residents who fell in the First and Second World Wars. The landmarks mentioned here have different points of focus: a Marian niche, a wooden tower, and a monument dedicated to both Masaryk and the fallen residents.
The boundary of a protected landscape heritage zone also begins in Tetov, on the southern side of the road from Hlavečník to Tetov. Alongside the individual buildings and memorials, this boundary is another local point of interest for travellers interested in landscapes and heritage conservation.
Hunting lodge complex on the edge of the forest
The small hunting lodge complex in Tetov is located on the edge of the forest. It is considered a high-quality architectural example of building development in eastern Bohemia, as well as a clearly defined typological example from around 1920. This places it within an approximate period. The arrangement of its buildings brings the complex into view: a single-storey, rectangular forester’s house stands opposite an elongated farm building with stables. Together, the two buildings enclose a small courtyard.
When looking at the complex, it is therefore not only the individual building that matters, but also how the two buildings relate to the courtyard. Its typological classification draws attention to this distinctive architectural form. In this way, the complex adds an architectural point of interest to the village’s landmarks, with its building type, layout and courtyard arrangement.
Forest and local events
The forests of Tetov attract hikers, cyclists and mushroom pickers. The forest offers something for different interests: exploring on foot or by bike, as well as picking mushrooms. When choosing a destination, you can weigh this focus against the village’s historical and architectural attractions.
Local events in Tetov include the Witches’ Bonfire, a children’s day, raising the maypole, and Christmas workshops for children and adults. If you would like to plan your trip around a particular event, check the exact dates in advance.
When deciding whether Tetov suits your travel interests, you can consider several tangible attractions: local history, landmarks, architecture on the edge of the forest, and activities in the forest. Events can provide an additional reason to visit, provided your travel dates coincide with one.
