Brloh offers a range of topics to explore: geological and prehistoric traces in the disused quarry, an educational trail about the history of the Earth, and the earthwork remains of a fortified manor near a pond. For a visit, it is worth considering the topics and their practical conditions separately: access to the quarry is over trackless terrain; the Brložský Trilobit has its own event date.
Geology at the Brloh Quarry
The Brloh quarry lies on the southwestern edge of Brloh, in the valley of the Brložský potok, about 50 metres west of the built-up area. At the viewpoint above the quarry face, quartz sandstone grades into conglomeratic sandstone through quartzite. The latter contains worked quartz and lydite pebbles measuring up to 1.5 centimetres. The geological interest lies both in the transition between rock types and in the individual pebbles in the conglomeratic sandstone.
The disused quarry also reveals traces of prehistory on its boulders and rock faces. These traces add another topic to the changes in rock type: the rocks can be viewed both from a geological perspective and in terms of prehistory. The quarry is also part of a geological educational trail that depicts the history of the Earth. This places the direct observation of the rocks in a broader thematic context.
Access is over trackless terrain; the quarry is more than 250 metres from the road. So do not plan it as a stop right beside the road, and check access conditions before your visit. The Brložský potok is also part of the geographical setting: it flows through Brloh and empties into the Elbe.
Educational Trail and the Brložský Trilobit
The educational trail offers a broader perspective on the history of the Earth, while the quarry focuses on a specific transition between rock types. These two levels can help you choose a geological focus: you can view the quarry as a geological site in its own right or consider it as part of the educational trail. The boulders and rock faces also offer traces of prehistory as another topic.
The Brložský Trilobit is a recurring local event. The second edition took place in 2016, and the twelfth in 2026. The programme on 29 August 2026 began with an educational trail from 13:30 to 14:30; it also included themed workshops. The years highlight the event’s recurring nature, while the date and time give context to the schedule for that particular edition.
If you would like to include a future edition in your travel plans, check the current event dates. This will help you distinguish the general educational trail from the Brložský Trilobit programme, which takes place at a specific time.
Historical Traces in Brloh
Earthwork remains of the acropolis of a little-known fortified manor survive near a pond. The site is built over by house no. 27; some of the remains have been incorporated into later private buildings. The historical traces are therefore associated with a site that was built on at a later date. They offer a different focus from the change in rock type at the quarry: here, the subject is the remains of a fortified manor and their incorporation into later buildings; there, it is the rock types and visible traces on the boulders and rock faces.
This gives you a clear comparison when choosing what to visit: the quarry combines geological observations with traces of prehistory and the broader theme of the educational trail. The earthwork remains near the pond, by contrast, draw attention to local history and the site’s development. For the Brložský Trilobit, the event date is also a key consideration.
