The Dalimilova rozhledna on the summit of Větrov is a stone observation tower with a distinctive historical model. When planning your stay in Velké Vrbno, access is important: the tower can only be reached on foot, while the chairlift takes visitors to the Paprsek mountain hut. There are also marked hiking trails and winter activities, whose operating conditions you should take into account.
The Tower on Větrov
The stone tower is a faithful replica of the historic Kaiser Wilhelm Tower. The original stood on Sněžník from 1899 to 1973; these dates refer to the former tower.
Dalimilova rozhledna can only be reached on foot. From the car park in Velké Vrbno at the lift’s valley station for Paprsek, it is another 1.5 km on foot. Parking availability and trail conditions may change; check both before your visit. The chairlift takes visitors to the Paprsek mountain hut, but operates seasonally and depending on the weather. Checking current operating information can help you factor the ride into your day’s plans.
Marked Trails and Different Points of Reference
The yellow-marked trail passes through Velké Vrbno to the Medvědí rokle valley. Three marked hiking trails meet near the Paprsek mountain hut. This gives you two distinct points of reference when choosing a route: a trail with a named destination and a meeting point for several trails. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
Mountain Hut and Chapel: History at Paprsek
The Paprsek mountain hut was built in 1932 in the cadastral area of Velké Vrbno and was originally called “Slezský Dům” (Silesian House).
The Chapel of Saint Christopher stands right next to the Paprsek mountain hotel. The hotel is located at the meeting point of Hrubý Jeseník, Rychlebské hory and Králický Sněžník. The chapel was built next to the hotel in 2009 to replace a chapel that had been demolished in Velké Vrbno. It was consecrated on 26 September 2009, together with a bell dating from 1925. The bell comes from the now-submerged settlement of Grund Messinghammer.
Winter Activities in Velké Vrbno
The Paprsek-Olšanka “Kaskáda” snow park in Velké Vrbno has a total of 4.5 km of ski slopes, which are groomed with a piste basher. Evening skiing is also available. As operating details may change, check before planning your winter trip whether the slopes and evening skiing will be operating on your travel dates.
The Milíře cross-country skiing loop includes the Velké Vrbno lift station. The distinction is useful for planning: 4.5 km refers to the ski slopes in the snow park, while Milíře is a cross-country route connected to the lift station. Check operating and trail conditions for the time of your trip.
