The striking feature of Bohutín Nad Moravou is the contrast between the almost flat plain along the Morava River to the east and the steeply rising heights. The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and recurring local events add to this picture. When choosing a stay with a focus on culture and landscape, two questions can help you decide: Are you mainly interested in the landscape around Zbová, or in local history and religious tradition?

Landscape between the Morava and Zbová

The terrain of Bohutín rises steeply from the almost flat plain along the Morava River to the east towards Zbová (445 m above sea level) and, in the north, Burdova hora (498 m above sea level). The contrast between the riverside and the heights shapes how you find your way around the area. Zbová offers particularly beautiful panoramic views in every direction, especially into the Morava Valley.

Another natural feature is the abandoned quarry on the western slope of Zbová hill near Bohutín, about 500 m east of the village. It contains one of the most significant occurrences of alpine-type fissure communities in the southern part of the Keprnická skupina. For travellers interested in natural history, this is a specific geological point of interest in addition to the panoramic views. If you plan to visit the quarry, check its accessibility locally.

Routes and local history

Bohutín lies halfway between Ruda nad Moravou and Bludov on the Moravská stezka. A blue-marked hiking trail also passes through the village; local signage may change, so check it on site. These are two distinct route references for your planning: one places Bohutín on the Moravská stezka between the towns mentioned, while the other refers to the hiking trail through the village.

The earliest written mention of Bohutín dates from 1493, when the village was called Bohutínek. The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was built in 1801 and is dedicated to the birth of the Virgin Mary. A pilgrimage is usually held at the chapel on 8 September. Three different points of reference for local history come together here: the early name, a chapel with a recorded construction date, and a recurring religious tradition.

Theatre and events

Below Zbová, the summer open-air theatre is part of a natural area. This adds a theatre venue to the area's landscape and chapel attractions. If a particular performance is important to your trip, check the event date in advance.

Putování za Bohutínskou žábou reached its 47th edition in 2025 and its 48th in 2026. The edition announced for 6 June 2026 was to include cycling routes from 20 to 67 km and hiking routes of 8, 15, 25 and 35 km. These distances applied to that specific edition only. If you plan to attend a later event, check its dates and routes.
