Discover Velké Losiny through three distinct attractions: papermaking, castle history and thermal waters. There are also educational trails on a range of topics, as well as a hiking route that follows the Desná River. This mix is appealing if you’d like to explore culture, bathing and walking routes as different ways to experience the town. What interests you most will depend on whether you prefer its craft heritage, historic interiors, thermal pools or nature themes.

A paper-making tradition that continues

The Ruční papírna Velké Losiny complex was declared a national cultural monument in 2002. Today, the manufactory is one of the oldest businesses of its kind still operating in Europe. In Velké Losiny, industrial heritage and papermaking that continues to this day go hand in hand.

The manufactory offers a guided tour and the chance to make your own sheet of handmade paper. This hands-on activity adds a practical perspective on paper to the history of the complex. If you plan a visit, check the current booking conditions in advance.

A castle tour through several layers of history

Velké Losiny Castle offers a distinct historical focus. The tour includes rare Renaissance interiors and an arcade gallery. Visitors can also see unique leather and textile wall hangings, as well as 17th-century tapestries. The route also includes a memorial to the witch trials.

If you’re particularly interested in the interiors, look for the details in the wall coverings and textiles. If you’d like a broader view of the historical context, the same tour also includes a memorial to the witch trials. Check current visiting times before planning your tour.

Thermal pools and a sauna world

TERMÁLY LOSINY offers a different focus: nine thermal pools with water temperatures of up to 36 °C. The indoor and outdoor pools are supplied by the natural Žerotín thermal spring, which rises from a depth of more than 1,000 metres. The water’s source gives the bathing facilities a direct connection to the town; the sauna world complements them with four types of sauna.

The sauna area is accessible by lift from the swimming hall. As facilities and temperatures may change, check the latest information before your visit.

Choose between educational trails and a hiking route

The “Kolem stromů, které něco zažily” educational trail passes through part of Velké Losiny and shares the stories of twenty trees. It has 20 stops and is approximately 5 km long. The route is suitable for children, pushchairs and wheelchair users. If you enjoy following a theme as you walk, this trail combines stories about trees with a clearly stated approximate distance. Check current route information, as details may be updated.

Another educational trail, “Naučná stezka Velkých Losin,” starts at the Church of St John the Baptist and offers views of the Jeseníky mountain ridge. Here, landscape views take centre stage rather than stories about trees. Another hiking option is the Velké Losiny–Rapotín route, which runs from Lázně Velké Losiny past Velké Losiny Castle towards Rapotín, mostly along the Desná River. You can choose between the routes according to their focus: stories about trees, views of the mountain ridge or a riverside route.
