Vícov lies at the foot of the Drahanská vrchovina. Different interests may shape your choice of stay: the landscape, cycling and hiking routes, and the archaeological site of Ježův hrad. When planning, it is worth distinguishing their respective locations rather than treating these topics as one combined excursion. The cycling route passes through the village, the red-marked hiking trail runs along the southwestern edge of the cadastral area, and Ježův hrad is nearby. Access should be considered separately, especially for the castle site.
Landscape at the Foot of the Drahanská vrchovina
To the southwest of Vícov lies the forested area of the Březina military training area. It is situated on gently rolling uplands with deeply incised gorges. Spruce and beech trees grow at higher elevations; the valleys contain a variety of broadleaved trees. The contrast between the uplands and the incised valleys gives the landscape a distinct character. If you take the surroundings into account when choosing a place to stay, rather than focusing only on individual buildings, this is a point worth considering in its own right.
Ježův hrad: Archaeological Site
Ježův hrad is an archaeological site on a rise above the Okluka River. It contains the remains of a large medieval castle and an older hillfort. The site is near Vícov, within the grounds of a military training area; there is no marked path to the castle. Before planning a visit, check whether access is possible. The site therefore offers an archaeological point of interest distinct from an ordinary village route.
Distinguishing the Cycling Route from the Hiking Trail
For a cycling trip, Route 5031 provides a specific reference: it passes through Vícov and connects there to Cycling Route 5, the Jantarová stezka (Amber Trail). Check the route numbers and signage before setting out. The red-marked hiking trail follows a different course: it runs along the southwestern edge of the cadastral area and forms part of the Prostějov–Plumlov–Hamry–Vícov–Stínava–Malé Hradisko–Seč–Přemyslovice–Náměšť na Hané route. In this sequence, Vícov lies between Hamry and Stínava; the hiking trail should not be understood as passing through the entire village. You should also check the current markings before hiking. The difference between the route options can be summed up briefly: a cycling connection through Vícov or a marked hiking trail along the southwestern edge of the cadastral area.
A Church Point of Interest
The side altar of St. Florian’s Church in Vícov is dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary. On 1 May 2022, Vícov celebrated the feast of Saint Florian, the church’s patron saint. The altar dedication and the dated feast offer a different focus from the archaeological site, complementing the landscape and route perspectives with details related to the church. If you include cultural interests in your choice of destination, the church provides a point of interest in its own right.
