A 19th-century chapel, crosses and statues give Ivaň specific points of reference for a cultural and historical discovery. At the same time, the flat, intensively farmed Haná landscape shapes the village. The original historic settlement structure in the village centre is considered valuable and defines the municipality’s basic appearance. Local history and landscape thus come together in two distinct ways: through individual, precisely located monuments and through the character of the surrounding area.
Village centre and earlier local history
The chapel “Kaple sv. Floriána” stands in the centre of Ivaň and dates from 1898. A stone cross dating from 1883 stands directly in front of it. The two dates are 15 years apart and offer a concrete chronological comparison when exploring the monuments in the village centre. The historic settlement structure provides a broader context: it defines the municipality’s basic appearance, while the chapel and cross serve as individual local points of reference.
The first written mention of Ivaň dates from 1359. Archaeological finds from the present-day area of Ivaň offer another perspective: these include urns of various shapes, bowls, spindle whorls, a bronze bracelet and a bronze fibula. The written mention and the artefacts represent different approaches to local history—on the one hand, a dated reference, and on the other, a range of different archaeological objects.
Monuments in different locations
Not all the commemorative sites mentioned are in the centre. In the eastern part of Ivaň, opposite the bus stop, stands a statue of the Virgin Mary dating from 1889. The statue “Socha sv. Jana z Nepomuku” is located on the northeastern edge, by the access road from Tovačov; it was restored in 1946. These two location details help distinguish the monuments without grouping them together as a single village-centre ensemble.
Other points of reference lie within the cadastral area: A stone cross dating from 1863 stands in the northern part, by the field path “Pod hrubčickou silnicí”. The Pietà group “Sousoší Piety” is located on the eastern edge of the cadastral area, by a field path in a small wooded area. Northwest of Ivaň, below the water tower, stands the wayside shrine “Boží muka”, which is a protected cultural monument. These precise location details make it possible to distinguish between monuments in the centre and those farther out in the municipal area.
Flat Haná landscape and leisure
Ivaň lies in the flat terrain of the Hornomoravský úval at an average altitude of 172 metres. The Haná landscape here is also described as flat and intensively farmed. These details complement the individual monument sites with an overview of the village’s setting: the landscape describes the character of the surrounding area, while the monument descriptions identify specific historical points of reference.
The orange sports field is used for public recreation and sporting activities, particularly for children and young people. If you plan to use it, check the current conditions in advance; some operational details may change. This makes it possible to consider the sports field as a separate leisure destination alongside the village’s cultural and historical features.
