The Baroque Church of St. Andrew is the cultural focal point of Pavlovice U Kojetína: it was built in 1727 and is the village’s most significant immovable cultural monument. It stands on a hill and is accessed by steps; take this access into account when planning your visit. The statue of St. Andrew stands in front of the entrance gate to the grounds. It dates from the second third of the 18th century, was restored in 1811 and is also an immovable cultural monument. These three dates are not interchangeable: 1727 marks the construction of the church, the second third of the 18th century dates the statue, and 1811 marks its restoration. Anyone interested in the history of the ensemble can thus distinguish between the construction, the statue’s dating and its later restoration.
Other religious landmarks
The statue of St. Francis of Assisi stands on the road to Mořice, in front of house No. 109. It dates from the mid-18th century and is an immovable cultural monument. The Pietà stands at the crossroads towards Unčice. The bell tower is also an immovable cultural monument; its bells are rung regularly for Klekání (evening prayer). The cultural heritage therefore extends beyond the church building: alongside the individual statues, there is also a regular bell-ringing tradition.
History and landscape
The first written reference to Pavlovice U Kojetína dates from 1329; the place name appears in the byname of the Vladika Mikuláš z Pavlovic. This early written reference marks a different point in time from the Baroque Church of St. Andrew and the 18th-century statues. Pavlovice U Kojetína is also situated in hilly countryside on the southeastern edge of the Tištínská pahorkatina uplands. A specific historical reference and the village’s geographical setting thus sit side by side—two different starting points for a stay.
Outdoor activities and seasons
During work carried out in 2023, a shelter with seating and a view was built in Háječek. Nearby, the Morkovice–Nezamyslice cycle path is a tip for cycling and walking. These two suggestions offer different ways to spend time outdoors: relaxing at a seat with a view or taking an active outing on a regional route. This can help you decide whether to plan a stay focused on the village itself or include an outing nearby.
Fishing competitions for the youngest participants are held every year at Vaňák Pond. The local outdoor swimming pool is used for swimming in summer and as an ice-skating rink in winter. The activities therefore differ in how they need to be planned: the pool depends on the season, while the competition depends on its event date. Check both before planning a specific visit.
As a guide to choosing: the Church of St. Andrew is the cultural highlight, while the cycle path offers a way to get active nearby. The outdoor pool and fishing competitions add activities whose timing depends on the season or event date.
