The Stations of the Cross with 14 niche chapels, surviving traces of Grünberg Castle and the course of the Romže are among the different features of Stražisko. Art Nouveau villas and a cycling route connecting the town with other destinations in the region add to them. For planning purposes, it is worth considering these themes separately: religious buildings and local history offer different points of interest from the landscape and outdoor activities.
Church, Stations of the Cross and Grünberg Castle
The Church of the Guardian Angels was built in 1728 in the centre of Stražisko, on the site of the former Grünberg Castle. It and the Stations of the Cross are protected as immovable cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. The Stations of the Cross were created in 1854. Their 14 large, brick niche chapels contain paintings on sheet metal by the Prostějov painter Josef Vyjídáček, who worked as a bricklayer. A Lourdes grotto was added in 1895.
Part of the moat and rampart, as well as small fragments of the masonry of the outer bailey, have survived from Grünberg Castle. These remains provide another historical point of reference alongside the church on the former castle site. The Chapel of St Gotthard is a different building: it stands in the centre of the Růžov district and is also a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The religious heritage of Stražisko can thus be considered alongside the traces of its older castle complex, without treating them as a single building.
Villas and landscape in the Romže Valley
Stražisko includes the Zátiší villa district and other Art Nouveau villas. The surviving buildings, richly decorated with carvings, date from around the turn of the 20th century. Alongside the religious buildings, they offer a distinct perspective on the town’s architecture, focusing on the design of villas that have survived from a later period.
Stražisko lies in a deeply cut valley of the Romže. Here, the river winds between the peaks of the Drahany Highlands. The most prominent hill near Stražisko rises to 385 metres directly above the Romže and the road that passes by. The course of the river, the shape of the valley and the terrain are all connected when considering the landscape around the town.
Cycling route and railway for planning your trip
The Romže cycling route was completed in 2025. It connects Konice with Stražisko and continues from there via Ptenský Dvorek, Ptení, Bělecký Mlýn and Kostelec na Hané to Prostějov. The route improves access to Stražisko for cyclists and walkers. If you would like to include cycling or walking routes in your stay, you can consider this route as a separate planning option and take its listed places and endpoints into account when planning your trip.
Stražisko railway station is also a useful point of reference for your journey: it is on railway line 306 between Prostějov and Dzbel. If you are planning to travel by train, check the current timetable before your trip. This lets you consider the journey separately from the question of whether you would like to focus your stay on the cycling route or the historic sites.
Outdoor swimming pool and Hody tradition
The outdoor swimming pool in Stražisko was built in 1973 with a 50-metre pool and was completely reconstructed in 2011. Sports events are held on the grounds of the swimming pool. The facility is therefore part of the town’s architectural history and is also associated with events.
The traditional Hody celebrations in Stražisko include a Hody exhibition organised by the women of Stražisko. If this event is an important reason for your trip, check the dates in advance. This will let you include a visit to the exhibition in your plans, while the Stations of the Cross, villas, landscape and cycling route offer other ways to get to know Stražisko.
