Malé Hradisko offers a range of points of interest for travellers interested in Celtic archaeology, historic buildings and paths through nature. The Staré Hradisko oppidum is located near Malé Hradisko; for the paths, length, starting point and waymarking are important practical differences. This allows you to choose the focus of your stay according to your own interests.

Celtic Oppidum and Its Layout

Staré Hradisko is an important Celtic oppidum near Malé Hradisko, inhabited from the LT-C2 to LT-D1 phase. The fortified area covers approximately 37 hectares and is divided into an inner area and western and eastern outer areas. The chronological classification and spatial layout answer different questions: the phases indicate the period of settlement, while the three areas describe the layout of the site. The approximate area also gives an idea of the scale of the fortified site.

Chapels and Stone Works of Art

The Chapel of Panny Marie stands in the centre of Malé Hradisko; it dates from 1845. The Chapel of Panny Marie Růžencové has been a cultural monument since 1958. Its rectangular floor plan ends in a semicircular apse. In the settlement of Okluky, which belongs to Malé Hradisko, the Chapel of Panny Marie Růžencové was built in the early 19th century. The dates have different roles: 1845 and the early 19th century refer to construction dates, while 1958 refers to the monument status of the Chapel of Panny Marie Růžencové.

The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is a stone sculpture on a solid masonry pedestal. The restored original is kept in the chapel on the village square; a painted cast replica stands on the pedestal. On the outskirts of Malé Hradisko, in the Branky district, there is a protected stone building. Part of it resembles a Dutch-style masonry windmill. However, it is uncertain whether the building actually served as a mill.

Circular Route and Finding Your Way on the Paths

The Okruh Malé Hradisko circular route is 9.2 kilometres long and starts and ends at the Staré Hradisko educational trail route and the Celtic oppidum. It first follows woodland paths along the Okluka stream. Check the local waymarking before setting out; trail conditions vary seasonally. The Staré Hradisko educational trail starts at the Chapel of Panny Marie in Malé Hradisko.

In Okluky, a woodland path leads to Čertův hrádek near a blue-marked hiking route. However, there is no marked turn-off leading directly to the ruin. Čertův hrádek preserves the remains of a medieval castle, including parts of the moat and rampart, as well as the foundations of a round tower. If you plan to take this path, treat the woodland path and the nearby blue waymark as separate points of reference.

Woodland and Seasonal Interests

The forests around Malé Hradisko are suitable for mushroom picking and gathering wild berries and other forest fruits. Both activities are seasonal, and conditions vary with the time of year. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Malé Hradisko, the balance of your interests can help shape your stay: archaeological history and buildings offer a different focus from circular routes and seasonal nature activities. Choose your search according to the themes you would like to explore during your trip.
