In Klopotovice, sacred architecture and commemorative heritage sit alongside a landscape shaped by agriculture. The chapel, statues, crosses and memorial sites bring specific themes of local history to life; the Blata, fertile chernozem soils and flat cadastral area describe the landscape. If you choose a destination based on your cultural or landscape interests, Klopotovice offers both perspectives.
Chapel and sacred art
The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk is listed as a cultural monument. It was built and consecrated in 1810. Its architecture is defined by a recessed pentagonal presbytery and a prismatic bell tower. The presbytery is the area around the altar; the description therefore specifies both its shape and the form of the tower. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is part of the chapel grounds. It dates from 1740 and stands on a prismatic pedestal. The monument was restored in 1740 and moved to its present location.
Memorial sites and Madonna statues
The 1922 Monument to Freedom commemorates Klopotovice residents who fell in the First World War and local legionnaires. The war memorial in the town centre is classified as a monument of local significance; the main cross in the cemetery has the same classification. Another cross marked a place in 1855 where people could take a dignified farewell from the deceased. These memorials connect local history with different forms of commemoration, without implying that their respective purposes were the same.
The depictions of the Virgin Mary also tell different stories. The statue of the Madonna of SvatĂ˝ KopeÄŤek was erected in May 1946 at the site of a destroyed cross. It commemorates the devastation of Klopotovice at the end of the Second World War, in May 1945. František and Františka Klobouk commissioned the Madonna of HostĂ˝n at the end of the 19th century; A. Beck of KroměřĂĹľ is named as the statue’s creator. A statue of the Virgin Mary in Klopotovice is classified as a monument of local significance. A PietĂ depicts Our Lady of Sorrows with the dead Jesus Christ, taken down from the cross, on her lap. The KrátkĂ˝ couple from Klopotovice commissioned it in 1898 in honour and praise of the Virgin Mary.
Other notable landmarks include crosses beside field paths. KloboukĹŻv kĹ™ĂĹľ, dating from 1912, stands beside a field path from Klopotovice to the TovaÄŤov–ProstÄ›jov road. A cross dating from 1882 stands beside a field path leading to TovaÄŤov. A sandstone monument is dedicated to Prussian Major Eduard von Behr and is associated with the Prussian-Austrian Battle of TovaÄŤov on 15 July 1866. The composer and organist Václav PlachĂ˝ was born in Klopotovice on 4 September 1785, adding a cultural life story to the history of the place.
Landscape and orientation
Klopotovice lies on the edge of the Upper Morava Valley. The soils are very fertile chernozem, there is little forest cover, and the area is shaped by agriculture. The cadastral area is flat, with an elevation difference of up to ten metres. The Blata River crosses it from northwest to southeast over a total length of three kilometres. The water surface covers three hectares. These two measurements describe different aspects: the distance in kilometres refers to the river’s course within the cadastral area, while the figure in hectares refers to the water surface.
