Čehovice combines the Baroque Church of Saint Procopius with a local history that reaches back to an earlier settlement site. There is also a circular trail with six themed information panels and archaeological finds with their own discovery dates. For your travel plans, the main focus is therefore on cultural history, walking, and cycling, with different themes and routes to explore.

Church and Local History

The Church of Saint Procopius is considered the heart of the village square in Čehovice and the municipality’s oldest monument. It is a single-nave, east-facing Baroque church dating from 1788–1789. Single-nave means that the church has one main nave. The present church was built in 1789 using material from the old church. The church grounds also include a well-kept park with mature trees. Here, the church’s architectural style and construction date come together with the surrounding park and its role in the village square.

The small Chapel of Saint Procopius on Stráž Hill bears the date 1634 and commemorates the original site of Čehovice. After the village was probably destroyed in wartime, it was rebuilt about one kilometre downhill, near the Vřesůvka. Today, the stream flows along the edge of Čehovice. The chapel and the present-day village thus represent two historical reference points: the remembered original site on Stráž and the later rebuilding near the water. This shift also gives the village’s history a geographical dimension.

Circular Trail and Cycling

The Čehovice educational trail forms a circular route suitable for walks and bike rides. Its six information panels cover the wetland biocorridor, local history, and the municipality’s cultural monuments. Visitors interested in several of these topics will find a combination of nature and local history here. The circular trail therefore offers a different way to experience the village than focusing on individual buildings. Conditions along the trail may vary.

A separate 1.734-kilometre cycle route runs from Bedihošť to Čehovice, following the railway line. It differs from the educational trail: the circular route and its themed stops are the main features there, while this route is defined by its length, endpoints, and course. Road II/367 is also relevant when planning. It runs through Bedihošť, Čehovice, and Čelčice and is the only direct connection between these municipalities and Prostějov. The road is busy and is also used by cyclists. When choosing your route, it is therefore worth considering this road separately from the cycle routes described above.

Archaeological Traces and Planning Your Visit

The fields of Poblatí and Jelítka add archaeological contexts to the area’s architectural history. In 1947, a find from the Middle Danubian Tumulus culture was discovered in Poblatí: it consisted of several gold wires and decorated gold foils. In Jelítka, an extensive assemblage of pottery from the same period came to light during deep ploughing in 1920. The different discovery dates and finds reveal two distinct aspects of local history.

A Hodová Mass is usually celebrated in the Church of Saint Procopius on the Sunday closest to the feast day of Saint Procopius on 4 July. If you would like to plan your trip around this occasion, check the exact date in advance. This time-specific tradition is distinct from the other themes of the village: its architecture, the memory of the former settlement site, its archaeological history, and the circular trail each offer a different focus.
